Chapter 10: More Similar than You Think

This area of the forest seemed creepier than the rest. Mist had settled around us as we analyzed each other. Suddenly in a flurry of hand signs, the enemy blew a fireball at me. I easily escaped and deflected the giant shuriken that she had thrown. It lodged within a tree a ways to the right.

Fire type and fancies that giant shuriken....interesting

As the fire girl tries to get the giant shuriken I block her path and unsheathe my swords. She groaned and pulled out a sword as well. We both slash at each other and are thrown back a little. I regain balance faster than the fire girl and charge her. Just as I get to her I change my approach and side step her. Just as she was turning to attack, I kicked her into a tree and held my sword to her neck.

"What's your name?" I asked curiously to the agitated girl I had trapped.

"You can call me Kura." She said before things changed.

Kura pushed me back and her sword extended into a chain blade. I sigh in annoyance as she swings at me. I dodge when suddenly the blade swoops around again and slices my leg. My heart suddenly beats faster at the wound, reminding me of my father.

As Kura swings her chain blade in a frenzy. I throw my sword and it traps her sword into a tree. Then throw senbon needles into her dominate arm making it useless. This pisses Kura off some more as we change to a taijutsu battle. I dodge a punch and swipe her legs. She grabs some senbon from her arm and swiftly stabs me in the leg with them. I cry out in pain as we both try to recover. I finally get agitated and something snapped a little inside me. I felt like I was changing.

What is this I'm feeling?

I freeze Kura to a tree just as she grabs her sword and she cries out in pain. She screams in aggravation and burns the ice right off her. She's crouched on the ground as chakra swirls around her. Sharp claws make themselves known and pointy teeth sprout from her mask. All the while blood seeps out of her mask. An insane laugh erupts from Kura's throat causing me to stand back.

What the hell just happened?

Kura looks down at her sword and laughs again.

"I don't need this." She says as she throws it away.

Fear grows in my chest and I know I need some thinking time. I started sprinting through the forest. My leg throbbed from all the wounds, but I pushed through. I could hear Kura not to far behind as she tears through the forest. I glance back at the crimson eyes and it motivates me forward.

"COME BACK HERE AND FIGHT ME YOU USELESS BRAT!" She yells in a monstrous voice.

Time seemed to freeze as I stopped in my tracks and slowly turned around. Power surged through me as everything seemed to change. My bangs were covering my eyes as I turned to the beastly girl crouched in front of me.

"I'm...nOT...USELESS!" I yelled as I looked up and ice shards flew everywhere.

I look at an ice shard next to me and see that my hair has turned white and my eyes are glowing blue.

"Cold hearted I see." Kura says as she laughs.

"What are ya gonna do now? Turn this into a winter forest?" She continues and laughs harder.

Just as I was gonna freeze her completely, Kura seemed to change. The monstrous voice faded as the girls regular voice fought through. She clutched her head in pain and screamed.

"CURSE..THIS...WREtched...body.." the monstrous voice says as it fades out completely.

I noticed Kura was in a lot pain and felt sympathetic.

"Not again!" Kura yells out painfully.

I run over and kneel in front of her. She tries to push me away but her attempts were weak.

"Hey look at me. You're gonna be fine, just calm your breathing." I assured soothingly to her.

She cries more and curls into a ball.

"I'm a monster!" She yells out.

    "Don't say that!" I yelled back.

    She looked up at me in confusion. I sighed and pulled the part of my jacket that covered my face, so she could see how serious I was being.

   "Why listen to people? They don't know anything about you, only you do. If you think you're a monster, then you'll be a monster. As long as you believe you're not one, you're not one. It's simple. Now get up and let's get out of here. Others will be showing up to try and attack us." I explained before helping her to her feet.

   "Why are you helping me?" She asked as we both limped away.

    "Cause I somewhat understand what you're going through." I explained before stopping.

    I broadened my senses and tried to pinpoint my teammates. I got worried when I sensed them and noticed a huge spike in Naruto's chakra, similar to Kura's during the fight. I also sensed someone powerful fighting my team.

    "My teams in trouble, I have to go. I'll see you around sometime. Hope you and your team make it through." I said to Kura before leaping away.

   "Right back at ya!" She called to me.

   I smiled as I fixed my mask and got ready to once again fight. Naruto's Chakra suddenly dropped and Sasuke's went crazy weird. I appeared and kicked away the man that had his fangs in Sasuke's neck. He chuckled as he landed on a branch.

   "My job is done here." He said in a chilling voice.

     I used my new powers and sent ice shards through his body. Sadly his body just burst into a bunch of snakes that slithered away. I sighed tiredly and turned towards the two passed out boys. Sakura was sitting next to Sasuke worriedly. I walked over to Naruto and picked him up. Carrying him on my back, I motioned for Sakura to follow.

   This isn't looking good for our team.

   Sakura struggled with carrying Sasuke, but we continued to trudge through the forest. I found a hollowed out spot in a tree and laid the boys inside. Then,  Sakura and I gathered moss and leafy branches to cover the entrance. I took out some cloth I kept safely in my pouch and soaked it in water from a small pond nearby. Once the boys were situated with the cold wet cloths on their forehead, I sat tiredly by the entrance.

   Hopefully we don't run into more trouble with these two passed out...
