I turned off the water, and stepped out the shower; raping the towel around my body. I looked in the mirror staring deep into my reflection. So much has happened in the past week and a half, I think. It's hard to keep up. I still can't process what has happened. So much stuff I never thought was possible IS possible. My world has been changed from a simple life, to a life full of uncertainties, un-answered questions, and thoughts lingering through my head. Who knew someone's life could be changed so much, in about seven days. The best thing to do now is expect the unexpected.
I change my clothes, and start down the hall towards my dorm room. I throw my dirty clothes into the hamper, and sit down at my desk to call my mom.
"Hi mom, I'll be there around 4." I took a look at the clock on my wall to see that it is 12:30. It's about an hour and a half drive, so I should have enough time before I leave.
"Ok, I'll be expecting you, love you bye."
"Bye." I set the phone on the desk and get up to start to pack my bag for home. The door burst open and Jessie stumbles in.
"Where have you been? I tried to call you last night but you didn't answer."
"I met up with a couple of friends and we went out." She said it like it was no big deal. I might be overreacting a bit, but she could've at least called me. She left me by myself for the rest of the night, what a friend.
"Oh, and my phone died." She added
"Well I'm going home for the weekend, I'll be back by Monday afternoon, and I'm missing my first two classes."
She nodded. The room was filled with silence and an awkward tension that I didn't want to have.
"Jess, I'm not mad at you, but you could've at least called. I had no clue where you were. You could've been dying in a dumpster for all I knew. I just wanted to make sure my best friend was safe. It's only been a little over a week since we've been here, and I wouldn't want to give your parents the news that you were missing, or dead."
She chuckled.
"I'm serious." A smile is threatening to appear.
I joined her in laughter, not able to hold it in anymore.
"Ok, I'm leaving in 45 minutes, so do you want to get cleaned up then we can grab a quick lunch or coffee, down the street?" I asked while folding a shirt.
"Sure, I'm going to hit the showers, give me 15."
I replied with a simple nod and grabbed a pair of shorts from the bottom drawer.
After the door closed the sight of a black shirt and black pants appeared in the corner of my eye. I lifted my head to be greeted unexpectently by Harry. Like I said you have to expect the unexpected.
"Why are you here?" I purs my lips and wait for an answer.
"I'm your protector, remember?" He says like I'm supposed to remember these things.
"Like I said before I don't need a protector, and I don't know why you're even protecting me."
"How would you not know?" He raises his voice a bit. "Don't you remember what happened in the dream?" he asks. "I'm trying not to, and thanks for bringing it up again." I say sarcastically. "I just want you to realize that everything in that dream was real. ALL of it. You killing two demon vampires, and me killing..a lot more. It was all real. You do have natural ability's; you just need to be trai-" "Stop!" I interrupt him. I take a deep breath." Just please stop. I was off to a good day, and you had to come in ruining it by reminding me of last night. I was trying to move on from that and hope that it wasn't real. But how can I believe that because you're real. It's just a lot to take in, and that's why I'm going home for the weekend to hopefully get actual answers from my mother.
"Be prepared." Is all he said before walking out the door. I couldn't be more confused. Be prepared? What's that supposed to mean?
