My Mom was really quiet in the car while she was driving us to school. She is usually lecturing my brothers to stay out of trouble, but today, she wasn't. While we were in the car, Zack and Kurt were playing with their stupid Bakugan toys. They were too stupid to even notice my Mom's sudden silence.
I tried asking my Mom whats up, but she said everything is fine. I knew that something was up, so I was about to ask her to tell me whats really going on, but we reached my school and pulled in to the line of cars.
My brothers go to Barrett Elementary School since they're both eight. It was a little ways from my school, but my Mom liked it there.
Once I got out of the passenger seat and opened the trunk and grabbed my backpack and lunch, I gave her a slight wave goodbye and she said, "Goodbye cara, ti amo!" My Mom was mostly used to speaking Italian so she wouldn't get too distant with her heritage. "Love you too Mom!" I yelled back.
I was now entering another day of effort and homework. As I walked in, I saw the giant banner that read, "Jefferson Middle School" hanging proudly above the doors. I also saw my homeroom teacher Ms. Sumarin who was heading towards the copy room. She noticed me walking up the stairs and yelled,
"Good morning, Shannon." I stopped in the middle of the stairs, glanced back toward her, and waved without a word.
I made my way back up the stairs thinking about what my Mom wasn't telling me. Did she get fired from her new job as an accountant? Does she have breast cancer? Did she lose her planner? All these questions went through my head as I trudged to room 217A, my homeroom.
As I entered my homeroom, I caught a glimpse of Stacy and Jasmin's daily gossip session before class. Of course, they're always gossiping.
I saw my boyfriend, Dameon Clark as I made my way toward my locker. I gave a quick wave when he noticed me when I walked in the room. I am glad that Stacy and Jasmin don't like him because then they would have him instead of me. I like Dameon because he's nice, funny, smart, and likes me for me. He also likes that I speak Italian and he wants me to teach him so that we could be a unique couple. He wants it to be our little thing. My Dad is also missing out on approving all my dates. Well, now I can date whoever I want. But still. Dameon is everything I can think of.
After I waved at him, I made my way towards my locker which had pics of me and Mairilyn all over. It had pics of me and her at my 13th birthday party, our dance recital last May, me and her making funny faces at one of our million sleepovers, and lots more. My Dad also missed out on all of those events and more.
He missed me learning how to ride a bike, my first dance recital, my straight A report card for all three trimesters in seventh grade, and he is also going to miss my eigth grade graduation. That is one of the most important things in my life and he is going to miss it. Even my brothers will be there and who knows if they are going to keep quiet during that. Well, I hope they do.
As I was sorting out all my papers, I saw Mairilyn stroll into the room with a smile on her face. She's not usually this pirky everyday, so I decided to ask why.
" Hey Mairilyn, you look extra excited today. Whats up?" She looked like she didn't listen, but she had. " I just am today. I had hot chocolate last night and I couldn't sleep. Plus, today is Friday!" she said really jittery. Oh Mairilyn, chocolate always makes her hyper. Fridays do the trick, too. I feel her because we had two tests this week, one in Chemistry, my least favorite subject, and Math. They were both two days apart, so me and Mairilyn studied at each others houses to cram for the exam.
