Ruby's POV
It all began when our moms went on a vacation to Paris, leaving us behind in a giant house they rented...alone. "Good Morning!" Shirley declared happily. Mami walked in to the kitchen rubbing her eyes. And I just sat on the ground half asleep.
"Where's the food?” I asked.
“Oh, how come you always think about food?” Mami asked. “’Cause me awesome!” I chirped.
Shirley rolled her eyes while Mami groaned. “That doesn’t even make sense… its ‘cause I’m awesome.” Mami said.
“Whatever.” I replied. “Just gimme the food.”
Shirley handed me a plate with one piece of bread on it. I looked at their plates. Goodness. They had stacks of pancakes with blueberry and strawberry jam. There were also hash browns, scrambled eggs, sausages, and yogurt.
“Hey! How come I don’t get any?” I complained.
“’Cause we awesome.” They both said at the same time.
I groaned. My awesome phrase has been backfired.
“Fine, be that way.” I said. I looked at the clock. It read 7: 50
“Ahhhhhhh!” I screamed.
Mami and Shirley looked at me as if I was insane or on fire.
“The c-c-cl-clock!” I yelled.
Shirley looked at me suspiciously. Mami was giggling in the back. “Did you just say the cock?”
“What the… no. I said the CLOCK!” I improvised on the word.
“Oh dang it. We’re late!” Shirley said.
We ran out the door with the bread and pancakes in our mouth. We were there after 10 minutes of running, tying shoelaces, chewing, and waiting for Shirley to catch up. We were 14, in high school, and had a great friendship. We got there just as the bell rang. We went on our way to class. Miraculously, we were in the same classes.
“Another one murdered?” A student passing us said.
“Yes, it has been over 20 students already.” A guy said.
“Seriously? I’m scared.” A girl said hanging onto the guy.
“Don’t worry I’ll protect you.” The guy replied hugging her.
And they started kissing like crazy while we were taking in the horrifying information.
“Do you think one of the teachers did it?” Shirley asked.
“Don’t worry I’ll protect you.” I said mockingly.
We all laughed until we felt glares behind us. It’s probably the couples.
“Geez, you guys are so childish.” Mami said shaking her head.
“Like you’re not” Shirley retorted.
The late bell rang and we ran towards our class. When we got there we sat in our seats.
“Now let’s begin our Math class.” The teacher said.
“Today we will be learning about the ba-.” The teacher was cut off by an announcement.
“Sorry to interrupt, but this is a special announcement. Many students were killed in the last few weeks. We do not know who did it. But we do know that bodies were found in the toilet of the restroom in school depending on the gender. Or also hanging from the wall with a bloody message saying ‘You wish you haven’t seen this’. If any students have an idea who did this please report to the office? There will be a special reward. Thank you for your corporation.”
The math class continued and was surprisingly quiet as if someone was about to rush in with a gun. We didn’t have any homework but instead of screaming in excitement to play Mario Brothers over the weekend, we were kind of depressed. We started talking after a little while though. We were laughing about a stupid joke that I cracked. I suddenly felt an evil stare at the back of my head. I turned around but there was no one there.
