Note: this is just a short story I did for Language arts.It was inspired by me from a writing prompt I stumbled upon and if you have anything to say, I am free to anything.
Complements, discrimination, suggestion, opinions. I don't really take anything personal so, feel free. If there are any he or she's that you notice, please tell me, this is supposed to be a genderless story.A thunderous voice echoed through the nothingness I was in."Eyes. Some eyes are a window to your soul, others say that they believe only what they can see. I think that what we see doesn't matter as much as what we hear. After all, we have 2 eyes, and a mouth that closes. But, our ears never close. I heard a wise one once say that telling stories is like diarrhea from the mouth. Of you think about this to much, you won't read what you need to read. This story all started with Joey. Joey was a young and adventurous-"
"Hey! You talking about me?"a voice inturuppted.
Someone appeared in the blank space I was in, I assumed that was Joey.
" Hi! I am Joey!"
I stand correct. Suddenly, my blank space started turning colors like water color paint. Green grass leveled out my surroundings and trees with rich green leaves fell in what seemed slow motion. Some swings that appeared had some kids swinging on them. The kids went back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and-
"Do you know them?" Joey asked directly looking at me.
I hesitated. "Um....I don't think so."
"Oh!", Joey laughed,"you are confused!"
I couldn't understand. Could Joey already understand my face expressions?
Joey only pointed to the clouds and said,"the sky is cloudy, kind of like your state of mind. Your emotions reflect the weather here."
I looked up at the clouds, they almost seemed fake. The 'fake' clouds went smaller, and smaller, until they just...disappeared! The sky still looked pretty dim. I was calm though.
After a long silence, Joey suggested,"Hey! Lets go get ice cream." I heard the jingle of a ice cream truck in the distance. I turned towards a hill and sure enough, there was a ice cream truck.
Joey an I walked up to the side of the road just as the ice cream truck pulled up in front of us. Joey got two________ cones and gave one to me. I hesitated to eat it. What if it was poisened? Is it okay to eat it here? I decided it was and accepted the treat. Joey started walking on the sidewalk with me trailing behind.
"So, any questions?" Joey asked me.
After a moment of thinking, I asked the most stupidest question of all.
"Where am I ?"
Joey smirked and said," You are here."
I wanted a clear answer, not a sarcastic one. Fustration edged my voice as I asked again," Where exactly is here?"
Joey said, " You are in the story you were reading. "
"Really" I said surprised.
"Really."Joey stated matter of factly.
I continued eating my ice cream while my thoughts aimlessly wandered. Why was I here? Better yet, how? What happened to the story?
Reading my mind, Joey said,"You were brought here to live the story. My guess is the stars thought it was a good idea. Now, you stay here until the stars decide to return you."
This kind of made since. "Wait! So, what happens to you when I finish the story?"
Joey shrugged. "I don't know. But, I will soon."
"How do you know? How could you possibly be sure of something you can not prove?" I question.
Joey only shrugged yet, again.
" The stars told me to have hope so, I do.
Joey doesn't seem bothered by the questions so, I kept asking.
"How can you be so sure that this is your story? "
Joey then said, " If the story doesn't open for you, then its not your story. Where you're from, that is your story."
Me being well, me, I thought to myself 'preech Joey preech.
It was now that I noticed my enviroment changing. Small block like squares moved quickly into different places. It reminded me of a puzzle. Unaffected Joey kept walking. In a blink, my surroundings focused in a crowded market place. Booths of food were set up, to crowded for me.
I then heard a familiar tone,"Eyes. Some say that eyes are a window to your soul, others say..."
Yada!Yada! Yada!
The next thing I knew, Joey and I were running along a rooftop being chased by guards. The guards were yelling something but, I wasn't about to stop and ask what. My foot slipped and I decided to fall at the most undesirable moment of all time. I started falling.
"Oh! Good choice!" I heard Joey call between laughs. While Joey was having a good time, I was reading for my life. The wood was pretty rough on my back but, not all that painful. The edge was nearing way to fast for my taste. The next thing I knew, my feet hit the edge and I jumped. It felt like I was flying through, I could see Joey soaring through the air out of the corner of my eye. I was a eagle, a hawk, a gliding bird, that is....until I wasn't.
The solid ground was a great awakening to reality so, I broke out of my faze pretty quickly. I was on my back breathless. That was the most thrilling experience I ever had. Wait, what if I broke something? I started getting up and everything worked fine so, we were good. Joey was standing looking unaffected to the fall.
" That was fun." Joey said not even breathless.
I missed in agreement, not being able to stop the grin that carved its self on my face.
"Yes, it was but, why were they chasing us?" I asked.
Joey signed and said,"That was my dad. Well...erm.....kind of. My dad died of a heart attack not long ago and people in the village think I murdered him so, I am a 'wanted criminal'. "
"I am sorry." I say suddenly regretting my curious nature.
Joey only continued," my mom abandoned us when I was younger. I used to hold on to the hope she would come back but, eventually, I faced the truth."
"Was it hard letting go?" I ask.
Joey nodded," not as hard as holding on though. "
I understood. I recall when I had to let go and how bad yet okay it felt. The sun above us started getting dimmer.
Out of the blue, Joey said, " lets go on a walk."
