"Your uncle is coming home from work early, help me make dinner." My mother commands, handing me a wooden spoon, "I can't imagine you being a housewife any time soon."

"Neither can I," I reply. "I don't want to be a housewife."

"All women have to be housewives," she begins cutting onions. "It's how the world is."

"I want to be a doctor," I announce. "I have good grades, I can go to a good college and university if we get some money together-"

"Look," she smiles, it's strained. "Women can't be doctors, the ones that become nurses are family rebels who want to pretend they're like men. You wouldn't want to go against your own family, would you?"

"What if I don't want to get married and have children?" I ask, annoyed. "Why do I have to be a man's slave all my life? Don't I get a chance for a life myself?"

"Men don't like dreamers," she scorns, "Or thinkers, get your head from the clouds and start mixing the soup."

"Is that what I'm going to do until I die?" I put the spoon in the soup. "Mix soup?"

"Y/N!" I jump. "Shut up! You cannot be a doctor, you're a nobody! You're going to get married and have lots of children and you'll become a housewife, okay? You'll never be a doctor, you're plain stupid for even thinking of that idea. Now, hurry up with that soup, when your uncle comes home don't annoy him and do everything he says. Mix it quicker."
