The end of the day has come as it was almost dark already. Probably just because of the incoming rain though. Nate was just heading out of school with Grace trying to forget what happened earlier when Damien came running up to him and asked him for the billionth time,
"Why did you look like you were about to cry in the cafeteria earlier? Did I do something wrong?"
Nate can absolutely say that Damien did something wrong but he thought the reason was stupid. So he got rejected by Damien. So his heart was crushed into tiny little pieces. It's no big deal, right? Well, that's not the case for Nate. He was being so sensitive, which he knew but he just couldn't let it pass.
"I've been trying to make him budge too but he just wouldn't." Grace added.
"I'm fine you guys," Nate lied, "Seriously."
Nate was scared to confess his grudge mainly because he thinks Damien would flip out, walk away and leave him alone forever, but he knows he's overreacting.
"You're lying." Grace said while rolling her eyes.
"No I'm not." Nate lied, again.
"I've known you for years. You can't fool me."
Nate sighed. Not because of defeat but because he just wants to.
Nate looked at the two argue about something. He heard a couple of cuss words and an 'I'm his best friend.' being thrown. He knows that the two were talking about about him but he didn't listen, instead he just stood there and stared at the pouring rain outside.
"Okay fine," Grace spat, "You go talk to him."
And with that Grace walked away and left the the two boys on their own.
Damien looked at Nate with full concern. If there is one thing Nate is afraid of it's telling someone his problem. He's a really reserved person and would only share private stuff with people he could trust. Damien seems like someone Nate could trust but it would be hard to tell him considering that Nate's problem involves Damien.
Damien searched his bag for an umbrella and when he finally found one he handed it to Nate.
"What's this for?" Nate asked.
"You're gonna need it. I'm taking you somewhere."
"But where--"
Before Nate could finish his sentence Damien was already on his way out. There is nothing else left for Nate to do, so he obediently followed Damien.
Nate caught up to Damien noticing the rain drops falling on the exposed boy's head.
"Do you want to share this umbrella?"
"I wan't to but I cant." Damien rejected.
"Why?"
"Why?" Damien repeated, "Because your health is more important than mine."
Nate can't help but smile at the thought of Damien risking his own health for him, but still he wants to share the umbrella because he cares about Damien too.
"But you're all wet."
"It's fine."
Nate frowned for a moment until he realized that he had an object that could've saved Damien from the rain: another umbrella.
Nate made Damien pause for a moment and handed him the open umbrella to quickly fish out the unused one. It was this time when Damien grew impatient and let out a groan while Nate gave him an occasional glare.
When Nate finally got the said contraption out he immediately handed it to the soaked boy and let out a smile. That smile quickly disappeared when Damien brought up his hand to his head to rub his temples. Nate gave him a confused look and when Damien noticed it and started talking.
