"Don't you guys think this is a little bit cruel?" Sam asked, talking over the gleeful tittering of Emily and Jess.
"Yeah, come on guys." I said, crossing my arms and frowning at them from where I stood beside her. Jess just rolled her eyes at my comment.
"Come on, she deserves it." She scoffed.
"It's not her fault she has a huge crush on Mike." I protested, still whispering as make sure no one outside the room heard me. This was a terrible idea and I hated it. Nothing ever ends well from Emily and Jess' pranks. Yes, the two girls were my friends but I also know that their pettiness can quickly go too far.
"Hannah's been making moves on him. I'm just looking out for my girl, Em." Jessica states, pointing a perfect fingernail at Mike who stood next to me with his hands on his hips. Mike was a big guy and absolutely dwarfed my measly 5'4 frame.
Jess whirls around and sways her hips as she struts out into the large living room. Emily followed after the blonde with everyone else behind her,
"Just because he's class prez, doesn't mean he belongs to everyone...Mike is my man." The dark haired girl added, grinning conspiratorially.
"Hey Em, I'm not anybody's man." Mike says from behind her
Emily scoffed, "Whatever you say, Darling!" She sang.
I trailed behind the rest of the group, biting my nail, my stomach still clenching like knots. Again, this was a terrible idea.
Yes, Hannah had been acting particularly forward all weekend with Mike, and if I was being completely honest, I didn't agree with her tactics. I loved the girl but sometimes she could be hella naive. Mike had a girlfriend and said girlfriend wasn't not blind to the girls advances. To his credit, Mike had been gentle in brushing Hannah off but it seemed that Emily wanted to make a bigger statement.
I looked up, noticing that Sam broke off from the rest of the group and began heading up the stairs. No doubt find the Washington girl before she got herself into the situation coming for her.
I looked back in front of me at Mike's wide back before jogging up beside him, "Mike, are you sure about this?" I asked my best friend.
He looked down at me and shrugged, "Yeah." He said but I saw straight though him. Mike and I had known each other since third grade and I could read the vague look of doubt on his face better than anyone.
"Are you sure-" I started to say again started but Mike cut me off before I could finish.
"Yes, I am," He said and looked at me, "Look, Lena I know you're worried but Hannah will be fine, it's just a prank."
"I know, but she really likes you, Mike," I stressed, "This will be so humiliating!"
"Trust me, she'll get over it. Stop worrying, stress head!" Mike chuckled and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, yanking me towards his side and giving me a reassuring squeeze.
He poked my cheek, making me smile, but my gut still clenched with uncertainty as he pushed me into the guest bedroom in front of him.
Emily and Jess were shuffling under the bed, giggling like a couple of idiots. Matt was shutting himself inside one of the cupboards and Ashley was pressing herself into the remaining wardrobe.
"Elena, get in." She gestured me into the closet with her.
I sighed before pressing herself into the space beside Ashely, reluctantly. Just as the door was swinging closed, Emily's hushed voice filled the room, "She's here, Shhh, Shhh..."
