The walls were seemingly thumping, the windows were rattling, the house was shaking. It was the neighbors again. "It is two o'clock in the fucking morning." my roommate, Winnie, shouted from her room. I sit up and I rub the hair on the top of my head. I get up and walk over to the window, looking to the house next to ours. Surely enough, all of the lights were on, their music up as loud as it possibly could be, and they were out back around the fire pit. I sigh and roll my eyes, walking out in the hallway, nearly bumping into Winnie.
"I have half a mind to go out and yell at them." she said, clenching her jaw. She paces the floor, her fists in a ball. I know she's only saying this cause she's tired and she hadn't gotten her coffee yet.
"Calm down. We'll talk to them later. I guess it's time to get up, I'll start a pot of coffee." I say, walking down the stairs to the kitchen.
When I get down there, I walk straight to the coffee pot, filling it with water and starting a full pot of coffee. Winnie comes storming down the stairs, pissed beyond measure. She leans against the counter, sweeping her hair on the correct side of her head. We both have half of our heads shaved, opposites sides of each other."You know what I noticed? They are gone for months at a time, they come back, and decide to stay up super late into the early hours of morning, then quiet for the rest of the day. Isn't that a bit weird?" I say, as I look out to the glowing orange of the fire. What do you think they get up to when they're gone?
"Honestly, I don't care what they do, but when it starts to wake me up at two thirty in the morning, that's where I draw the line." she says. I chuckle and head to the living room, turning on the T.V. I turned it up loud enough so that I could hear it over the music going on outside. Once, the light from the T.V lit up the room I turned on the light for the living room and I sat on the couch, leaning back."Coffee's done!" I hear Winnie shout from the kitchen. I sigh and push myself off the couch, walking to the kitchen.
"Were you just sitting here watching the coffee being made?" I ask with a bit of a chuckle. She just nods and pours some into my usual mug. I pour a bunch of creamer into it and she drinks her without any. We may be complete opposites, but we are like sisters. I heard the loud music from outside go quiet and then I heard people singing. They were singing a song that was over played and killed by the radio. "Are they seriously singing What Makes You Beautiful?" I said as I opened the kitchen window, listening in.I stood there, sipping my coffee, listening to them. They aren't half bad, I mean, they have beautiful voices. The harmonies are beautiful, the riffs were good, they solos were great. I felt like a total creep just standing there, listening to these complete strangers having a little jam session. I look over to talk to Winnie, but she's already gone and watching T.V.
Soon after, the singing stopped and it was quiet. I sighed in relief at the quiet and went and sat down. I decided then and there that I was going to go talk to them later and find out who the hell these people are.
