School was cancelled for the rest of the week. Someone in the village decided to call a vampire slayer called Lord Hallton. Apparently he has killed over 100 vampires in his time. Nearly all of the villages have now come to realize that it was a vampire that killed that girl. I've been rushed off my feet the last couple of days, but my nightmares have still occurred every night.
Mother wouldn't stop talking about this Lord Hallton, I think she fancies him. She says he is a very wealthy man who pays no respect to the poor, so she decided to spend a bit of money on the exterior of the house to make it look more expensive. If I'm honest I don't think he will pay any interest in my mother, she's a house wife and men like that like women that have a lot of money. "Valerie we need to go now!" My mother shouted, I ran downstairs and met my parents outside. "Mum are you wearing lipstick?" I asked. Why does she have to try so hard? My mother was about to give me some kind of telling off but she was rudely interrupted by a loud horn. Lord Hallton had arrived. We quickly ran to the village square where we stood with the rest of the villagers as Lord Hallton got out of his carriage and made his way up to the platform. He was a slim mad mid thirty's, with tinted orange skin and curly black hair. My mother wasn't the only one who found him attractive. A large number of the ladies were wearing makeup and had quite revealing clothes on. My mother was twirling her hair around her finger, I shook my head in embarrassment.
Finally Lord Hallton spoke. "Ladies and Gentlemen of Dragerhorn, I am here to reassure you that these vampires will be dealt with. I have had lots of experience with these creatures. Killing these beasts won't be the problem, finding them will be the challenge. These beasts could be anywhere, in the woods, the mountains or even in the village as we speak. I know that some of you will want to help me kill them. If that is you then you can write your name down over to my left after I've finished." This caused the villagers to whisper to one another. "Quiet! I can see that you are quite a close village, but let me tell you this, there are some people in this village who have betrayed you. They know who and where these beasts are, they are protecting them, and may possibly be one of them. One of these beasts may be stood next to you right now. You can trust your friends, neighbors or family. Some of you might have made acquaintances with these beasts or made deals with them. If this is you then you are a traitor to your people. My friends don't associate yourself with these people that have had contact with these beasts. If you are one of those people that are keeping secrets, you can try and hide the truth but I will find out. And when I do you will be treated in the same way as we treat those monsters. Now to ensure that you will stay safe everyone will obey the curfew. If you are found out of your house after eleven you will be killed. Lights in all houses are to be out at eleven thirty. Now for those who want to join the hunt sign up now, you will be expected to meet me outside the church at ten fifty no later. Now for the rest of you stay indoors, don't trust anyone. If you have any information or confessions about these beasts then you can come and tell us now. If not then go home and lock up, it's going to be a long day. And for those that are hiding things be warned we will find out." And with that said he disappeared off stage.
"Let's go home now." my mother said immediately and pulled me away from the people. Something had changed in her attitude. One minute she was blushing about this man the next she's practically running away from him.
We walked home in silence, I looked up at her, and she had a panicked look on her face. "Mother is everything ok?" I asked. "Yes of course it's just a bit cold and I left the chicken in the oven. I didn't ask anything else, she wouldn't have told me anyway. We arrived home. My mother went into her bedroom and locked the door. I went into the kitchen and got myself drink of water. The oven was empty. I wonder what's wrong with her. I didn't bother to go to her room, I went upstairs and sat on my windowsill. The villagers I could see were shutting their windows and closing their curtains. I looked out further, the woods looked darker than normal, and I'm guessing that's where they are going to go tonight. I began to think about what the woods would be like at dark when I heard a shout. I stood up and exited my room. My parents were arguing. I sat at the top of the stairs so that I could hear well. "What were you thinking signing up for that hunt? What happens if you come across Riley? He will kill us, we have been avoiding him for years. He will take her if he knows she's still here. John she's nearly 18 we said that he can have her at 18. What are we going to do?" my mother began to cry.
What was she talking about? They never told me about someone called Riley. Have me, but I don't even know him. I couldn't think straight, but something inside of me was telling me that this Riley person may be the person from my dream. But that can't be true, it's only a dream isn't it? My thoughts were interrupted by my father's voice. "We made that deal with Riley a long time ago, he would have forgotten by now. Anyway I signed up because people will start to get suspicious, if they found out what we did then we will be killed. So please trust me with this. We are going to be ok, I promise. The house became silent. My mouth felt dry and tears fell down my cheeks. Finally it hit me. My parents had done something stupid. Very stupid. They had made a deal with a vampire. And it wasn't just their lives on the line. Mine was as well...
