Rain Check-Part 2
As I climb up the stairs back to my apartment,I notice I can't walk in a straight line. My brain bangs against my skull. What's going on? How can Riley not be a resident,but Sierra can? That man did shoot him. Is Riley dead? No,he can't be. In my mid-thoughts,I bump into someone. I wobble gently against the wall,as my blurry vision turns clear. "Wendi,are you ok?" Vance asks resting a hand on my shoulder.
"Yea...Yea..Just have a headache." I respond. I feel like I'm forgetting something.
"Where are you going? The greenhouse's the other way." Vance says pointing in the direction I camas. THAT'S what I was forgetting.
"Yea..I-I know." I play it off. "I just forgot my bird."
"That's alright. I'll meet you there,ok?" Vance ask.
"Sure thing." I say smiling. Vance grins,and heads off to the greenhouse.
I completely forgot about Vance. The other day,I had planned a simple day. Get tested,get out,and go to the greenhouse. Then,all of this had to happen.
I do as planned. I put on my safety pad,and rest Moxie on my shoulder. Moxie doesn't cause me any trouble,as I head to the greenhouse.
"Ok,Moxie. You're going to meet a friend of mine. Don't bite him,you understand?" I order. Moxie makes a little bird noise,and pecks at my hair. Oh,boy. She's going to bite him.
Moxie and I arrive at the greenhouse to see Vance and two other girls lounging on the sofas. "Hey,Superhuman!" Vance greets me,with a wave. One of the girls,has very curly hair,dark skin,and looks around my age. The other girl,has olive colored skin,and black,long hair.
"Hey." I say. Thank goodness we're not alone. I'm really not good with people.
"Hi ya! I'm Sophia!" The one with the olive skin says. She gets up to shake my hand.
"And I'm Madison!" The other says. "Wow! What a beautiful bird!" Moxie pecks at Madison's jean jacket. "Hello to you,too. Yea,I know,it is sunny in here." She sounds like she's talking to Moxie. I must've had strange look on my face,because Madison responds with a: "Oh! I'm in this unit,'cuz I can talk to animals! Pretty wired,huh?" Madison chuckles.
"Madders! Don't scare Wendi off with your 'animal communications'." Vance warns. The girls laugh.
"We're just playing truth or dare. You wanna join?" Sophia asks,throwing herself on the couch with Vance.
"Don't worry. We won't make you do anything gross!" Madison laughs.
"That sounds fun!" I say. I make clicking noises,and Moxie flies off of my shoulder,and into the cage that I put in here. I close the cage door,and settle in an armchair,across from Sophia and Vance.
"Alrighty. I'll start!" Vance says. "Ummm...Sophia,truth or dare?"
"Dare!" She responds. Vance rubs his chin,in thought.
"I dare you to pretend to be Madison." He says. Sophia stands up,and flips her hair.
"Hi ya! My name is Madison! I am the most beautifuuulll girl alive! AND I can talk to animals!" Sophia says,very similar to Madison. I start laughing,and then Madison laughs. She even snorts. That makes it even more funny. "My turn!" Sophia says. "Ok. Wendi!" I flinch when she calls my name. "Truth or dare?"
"Truth?" I answer with carefulness.
"Boo! Truth's for wieners!" Vance says,cupping his hands around his mouth."
"Ok!Ok! Dare!" I say.
"I dare you,to eat that gummy bear,that Vance dropped in the floor two weeks ago!" Sophia says,her voice booming. I gag.
"Gross! I thought you said there was nothing gross!" I say.
"I lied." Madison says,poking my stomach. After a moment of laughter,a make my way across the room,to a gummy bear. I pick it up,and debate whether I should eat it or not. They all begin to chant.
"Wendi!Wendi!Wendi!"
"Ok,ok! I'm doing it!" I say,quickly plopping the gummy bear into my mouth. "Gross!"I yell. They all begin to laugh. I feel....Good. Is this what it feels like it be a normal teenage girl?
