Visitor
~Vance's POV~
Wendi's birthday party is tomorrow night. I mean,I can understand why she's so depressed and distant. All those tests can take a toll on you.
I'm pretty sure I picked out the perfect present for her. I know how much the ladies enjoy jewelry,so I got her a necklace with a bird on it. It was the closet thing I could find that looked like Moxie.
I just got finished signing her birthday card, when Larry walks in. "Vance. You have a visitor." He says. Not going to lie,my heart stops. Were my parents here? "Come on." Larry says, leading me out the door.
If you have people visiting you, you go to a steel room. No windows. Just bright, white lights hanging over your head. I'm just a little excited to tell them off.
I open the doors into the visiting room. Metal chairs and tables are alined in the center of the room. For the younger kids, toys and such are scattered throughout the sides. Only one other person is in the room with their parents,it looks like,so we're more or less alone. I step into the room. The first thing to catch my eye,is a puffy ball of red in off to the side.
"Delaney?" I ask. Delaney signals me over to the table. Delaney used to be my girlfriend. My first puppy love,if you will. She all of a sudden left, without saying goodbye. Her green eyes sparkle in the room of silver. I wasn't expecting her to be here. I'm just a little disappointed.
"What are you doing here?" I ask, sitting down. The chairs are ice-cold and hard as a rock.
"Do I have to have a reason?" She asks. Chills go down my spine. I guess we never really broke up. I have to tell her about Wendi.
"No. I'm just surprised." I say. "Where have you been?"
"All over the place." She beams. "Chicago,New York city,Los Angels. You name it; I've been there."
"Wow. You've been busy." I say. She nods. Her freckles are slightly covered by a slight tan. She giggles.
"What about you? What have you been up to?" Delaney asks, eye wide. In all reality,I was in love with Delaney. I would walk through fire for her. And I still would. God,I'm such a tool. Seeing her again, reignited my feelings for her. The smell of her perfume, the touch of her curly hair. The sound of her voice, insures me that maybe I'm not over her yet. My heart was shattered in two when she left, and I thought maybe Wendi could fill it. I rushed too quickly into things with Wendi. I feel terrible.
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing." I lie.
"Nothing?" Delaney asks, surprised. "No new friends? Girlfriends?"
"Nope." I laugh. "Forever alone." Delaney chuckles at that remark. "That's about it." I lie. She stops laughing, and gets a serious look on her face.
"Listen... Vance,I really missed you." She says. "You were my first kiss,my first love. My first everything. There wasn't a day that went by that I didn't think of you."
"Del-"
"But it's been a long time. I had to move on." She says. There's the bomb. Explodes in my face. "There's a guy. I like him a lot. And he accepts me for who I am." There she goes. Breaking my heart again. Everyone has to move on,right? Move on from the messed up kid in that facility. At this point,I'm angry.
"Oh,so now since you lost your powers, you're normal?" I yell. "Well, guess what. You're not! And do you have any idea how angry and heartbroken I was at you. You didn't bother to write,to call. And the ONE time you came to see me,it's to tell me you've moved on?"
"Vance! Stop!" She pleads.
"No! I'm sick of everyone leaving me behind!" I say. And with that,I storm out.
