The air quivered, a hundred miles up she flapped her massive wings.
Elana, the crimson death they called her, her scales the colour of fresh blood.
Her wings stretched the width of three houses and she stood as tall as one.
But none of that mattered now, she was old and weak, all she wanted to do was protect her little drake, still unhatched and waiting for her warm embrace.
She scanned the plains below, the knights, in their gleaming armor and with their cruel swords had come hunting her.
In her panic and haste, she had stupidly fled to her nest, now it would only be a matter of time until they found and killed her drake.
No. I wont let that happen.' Elana thought, and with a thundering roar she dove towards the advancing humans.
The humans were ready with spears pointed towards the sky, trying to stop her descent she flailed helplessly.
With a sick thud, she came to a stop, her vulnerable belly impaled by countless spears, but she had given as good as she got, the bodies of her foes crushed under her.
Two humans had survived, a mage who managed to shield himself and a warrior, who had masterfully evaded her.
She saw shadows dance in the corner of her eyes, as the sweet embrace of death called to her.
The warrior came up to her lithe form and spat," fucking beast, ill make sure you suffer for what you have done."
The mage looked unfazed at the carnage before him," just end her, we need to return and report our losses to the king."
The warrior turned angrily towards the mage," but there are rumors that this dragon had a drake, we must find it and kill it."
Elana couldnt make out much of what they were saying in her near death stupor, but she knew if she fell now, her drake wouldnt stand a chance.
She gathered the last of her strength and spoke," vile humans, you will pay for this with your lives," and with that she let loose her magic.
Fire cascaded out of her mouth, instantly consuming the warrior in a crimson blaze, the mage reacted quickly and brought up a shield of water.
Elana tired, she didnt think she could hold on much longer, with a last spurt she pushed he very life force into her magic.
The flames grew white hot, the mages usual uncaring demeanor was gone, his shield cracked and soon he too was a writhing mess covered in flames.
Thunder roared in the sky, elana looked towards the greatforests where her unborn drake awaited her, a single tear escaped her eyes, a silent plea to the gods, her head dropped and the last of her breath left her.
The crimson death had finally died after killing fifty knights.
