"Go on in, I'll park the car." Evan shouted out the window of the car as he drove away. Now I have to navigate my way through a bunch of sweaty, half dressed, drunks by myself. I found myself already through the door and surrounded by people. Of course a bunch of girls dressed as bunnies were here, I thought as they stumbled past me laughing. I knew I should have dressed as something less common, now everyone's just gonna think I'm apart of the drunk slutty bunny crew. I did differ from them by the fact that my butt was not out on display for all the zombie guys in the corner. I doubt anyone would take the time to think that I was any different though.
I found an empty chair along the wall unoccupied by couples getting a bit to handsy, unlike the rest of them. Their arms and hands kept bumping into my side, making me extremely uncomfortable. I didn't sit there long as I saw Evan walk in the door. I basically ran through the people to get to him. I had knocked down one of the drunk bunny members on my way to him and had to awkwardly stop and pick her up because of her incapability to do it herself. When I finally made it to him he was laughing his ass off.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing." He mumbled, gaining control of his laughter. I didn't reply as I crossed my arms. "You're just so awkward, it's funny."
"You're not Mr. Social yourself." I said back.
"Maybe that's why we work." He said grabbing my waist.
"Evan." I said sternly.
"I know, I know. I'm going to get a drink, want one?" He huffed.
"No, I'll just wait here."
"Okay, feel free to make some friends while I'm gone, you could use some." He said over his shoulder as he walked away with a wink. What a jerk, a cute jerk, my jerk.
It felt kind of refreshing being surrounded by a ton of people and being alone. Not that I was alone in any means because I came with Evan and even though he was not here with me at this exact moment I was still surrounded by people, but I felt invisible. I found a power in being lost in the sea of people, where nobody directly noticed me. That pleasure disappeared as I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to find a tall zombie.
"Uh, hi?." I said to him.
"I saw you all alone over here and I thought you might want some company." He smirked.
"Oh actually.."
"Are you waiting for the rest of the bunnies?" He interrupted me. Damn it, I knew people would think I was with them.
"No." I said, feeling insulted.
"A lone little rabbit." His hand moving down my arm. I hated the grin that his face held as he stared down at me. I saw his eyes scan me over as I thought of something to say back. But before I had a chance to speak Evan rounded the corner of the room and was heading towards me.
"Get the fuck off her." The amount of aggression in his voice scared me.
"Who the fuck are you?" The man said moving his hand to my back. Evan reached over and pulled me to his side.
"Get your own bunny, man." The guy spat at Evan.
"She is my bunny, man." He said man as if it disgusted him. The guy reached over and grabbed a piece of my hair as he spoke.
"Too bad, I had some great plans for bunny and I tonight. It's been awhile since I've had rabbit." The man said threatening. I stood frozen into Evans side, disgust filling me. Apparently Evan felt the same as I did but instead of standing frozen he pulled away from me and stepped up to the man, pulled back his fist and punched him straight in the face. The man fell immediately making the floor shake as he crashed against the pulsing wood.
"Let's go." I said to Evan.
"Sounds good, bunny." Humor found a way into his voice even with all the rage in his eyes.
Once in the car we sat silently for a few minutes before actually leaving the street the house was on.
"Why didn't you do anything?" Evan broke the silence as we pulled away.
"I just couldn't think. He was so big and I'm so small." I said turning to look at him.
"When I saw his hand on you, I, I just snapped." He said as anger filled his words. "Why didn't you take his hands off of you?"
"I was in shock! Not everyday does a giant zombie man rub his filthy hands on you. I didn't like it, I was just scared that if I did anything he would have hurt me." I said as tears filled my eyes.
"You know no one will ever hurt you while I'm around. And no one will ever put their hands on you like that again. But you have to promise me you won't just stand by and let them." He said taking his eyes away from the road to look at me.
"I promise. I'm sorry. I was just scared."
"You should never be scared, I'll always protect you." He said turning away from my stare. "Always."
