We accidentally walked in on Deena and Daniel making out when we went back downstairs. I covered my eyes with my hand. "Ew, I don't wanna see that!"
Both of them turned as red as a fire truck. Daniel started mumbling something under his breath.
Eric laughed. "You guys having fun?"
"Shut up," Deena muttered.
Eric laughed again and took a sip of his drink.
Daniel saw that we were holding hands. "What's going on with you two?" he asked, wiggling his eyebrows.
I blushed, but Eric just shrugged and kept holding my hand.
I don't know what the big deal was. They were holding hands too, plus they were standing way closer to each other than we were.
Daniel let go of Deena's hand and wrapped his arm around her waist while raising his soda can toward us. "Well, I guess we're celebrating two things tonight: Eric's half-birthday and the joining of two happy couples."
I rolled my eyes. "That sounds so sappy."
He grinned. "I know."
Eric laughed.
"So we should go on double dates," I said.
Deena nodded. "Totally."
"How about we all go to the movies next weekend?" Eric suggested.
"Sounds good to me," Daniel said.
We spent the rest of the party talking and hanging out. It was an awesome night.
Daniel dropped Deena and me off at my house when the party was over. My mom, Jenna, and Laura were all sitting in our living room, talking and laughing. "Hi sweetheart," Mom said when she saw me.
I smiled.
"Hey Alexis," Deena said to my mom.
"Hi Deena," Mom replied.
"Oh. Laura," I said, "this is my best friend, Deena. Deena, this is my stepmom, Laura."
Deena walked over to them Laura stood and shook her hand. "It's nice to meet you."
Deena and I went upstairs to my room. "She seems nice," Deena commented.
"She is," I said. "Laura is awesome."
Deena pulled her suitcase out of my closet. "Hopefully she stays that way."
"Yeah, hopefully," I repeated.
Deena and I changed into our pajamas and got ready for bed. "Are our moms still down there?" I asked. I didn't think I'd heard anyone leave.
Deena rolled her eyes. "They're probably gonna have a slumber party too. Emma's not here, right?"
I shook my head. "She's out with her boyfriend and their friends, and then she's sleeping over at her friend's house with all the other girls."
"That's good," Deena said. "We wouldn't want her to be here with two sleepovers going on."
I laughed. "Yup, that's very true."
My phone made the ding! sound like six times in a row, and I picked it up and turned it on. Eric had sent me a billion kissy-face and heart-eyes emojis. I rolled my eyes. "This boy is crazy."
"That's not crazy," Deena said. "Crazy is naming your children Deena, Dana, and Dinah." She shook her head. "I swear, sometimes I get me and my brother mixed up."
I laughed. "That sounds like a problem."
"So what did he say?"
I rolled my eyes again. "He just sent a bunch of emojis."
"That's adorable," Deena said.
I threw my phone on my bed. "Totally. What do you wanna do?"

At around midnight, Deena and I went downstairs to get some food. We walked into the living room and saw my mom, Jenna, and Laura in their pajamas, sleeping on the couch and on sleeping bags on the floor. Deena and I looked at each other and tried to muffle our giggles.
We crept past them and into the kitchen. "What should we get?" Deena whispered.
I shrugged. "Do you wanna make s'mores? We could toast them."
"Sure," she replied.
We ended up making a bunch of s'mores, hot dogs, and popcorn before we finally began to head back upstairs. I also grabbed a tub of ice cream to bring with us. Then we sat on my bed and watched a movie.
