Frost Bite

Chapter 1: The Window

There I sat, breathing deeply trying yet again to keep myself from killing thousands at a time. Outside the moon shown bright but the dark still sunk into me. Whenever I stare at my shadow it laughs a deep evil laugh, a laugh that sends a chill up my spine even though the cold never bothered me. A silhouette appears on the moon, a boy flying through the night sky. I smile to myself and gaze at him as he flies between the stars and through the dense clouds until he plummets strait down onto the soft snow, he pauses at my house and flies up to the window. He puts his hand against the glass, and I do too. I gaze into his eyes and he gazes into mine. But then, of course the window ices over. I laugh and unlatch the lock. He comes in and sits down on the carpet. I close the window but not the curtain, I want to salvage the light while I can.

" You know, you shouldn't be here." I say sighing. He looks at me innocently. This boy is the only other person on earth who I will let in my bedroom window.The only one I will talk to...the only one like me.

" I had to see you." He pleaded. I frown even though I wish I could smile. " It's dangerous, you could get hurt and-" He runs his fingers through my mangled white hair and I relax a little.

" I won't get hurt, I have you. " He whispers. I close my eyes wishing for him not to say such things.

" No! I'm serious! If he finds you. We're both dead...I can't watch you get hurt anymore you have to go!" I say. Almost everyone else in the world would cry at this point but I have gotten pretty tough about this stuff so I only cry in my mind. His face creases, I know he hates to see me sad.

" Elsa we can hide together! Why won't you come with me?" A question that makes me feel as if iv'e been punched in the gut. The truth is I haven't actually left my room for years. I'll hurt someone if I do. I want to go with him but, I just can't!

" Jack you know I can't!"

"Elsa hey," he pulls me close. " you've got me." For a moment I actually believe. But then I have one...my awful flashbacks the kind that is etched upon your heart. So that it can never be forgotten. A blast of ice, a boy falls down a cliff and lands. A guilty girl jumps in after him...thinking he was dead fell into despair at the thought that she hurt him. I push away from Jack.

" No! I can't!" He looks up at the sky and nods. Then he leaves out the window and I close it behind him. I watch him fly away. I look toward my doorknob...untouched. I hear a piping laughter. And turn to see him. On the wall laughing at me.

"What do you want?" I say turning away.

" Oh nothing my dear...just thought I'd stop by." I stop in my tracks

"How much did you see? " I asked.

" oh...plenty. You and jack are...getting along quite nicely. " he says a smug expression on his face.

" We made a deal Oscuro, my freedom for his life."

" Yes yes! And your doing a wonderful job...keeping him away from you. " he laughs I stay stiff.

" Of course he won't know your doing this for him he'll just think you don't like him won't he. Ahaha!" I gasp and stare at my shadow...my prison.He circles me and as much as it pains me he is right. Years ago on the day when I almost killed Jack I fell into a deep state of fear. Oscuro was going to kill him. So I made a deal with him Jack would live and Oscuro would watch over him, and I would sell my freedom. If I told Jack or if I tried to run away I would be turned into a victim of the dark. Even though Oscuro is evil he is still a man of his word.My shadow controls the whole thing, it is my soul and it has a mind of its own. It works for Oscuro and it will kill me if I try to do anything he wouldn't want. I turn and an icy blast appears from my hand and hits the mirror a shard of glass hits my cheek and makes a large cut.

" Aww fret not my dear." He says touching my cheek, he seals up the wound so there is only a scar.I sigh and he sinks into the shadows I really am trapped. Before he goes he closes my curtain and the room is dark.
