Living in an all girl's school puts a damper on things. Especially a strict catholic school. Mary Higgins School of Honor. Most of us around here got sent here when we were three-years-old. We can't leave the school because our mothers signed a contract saying we can leave when eighteen were. That's never the case. If you don't sign another contract saying you will stay until you're eighteen. Your mother or dad won't support you.
They leave you homeless on the streets. When you do sign it you have to stay a minimum of 8 years in college to get your diploma. Even though im sixteen almost seventeen I know to stay here. If you decide to venture out on your own. You will probably end up homeless, raped, or even dead. Im not that stupid to leave this school.
This school is built like a high secured prison. Were off somewhere in the mountains. The school officials won't tell us where we are. The walls are an ugly gray. It's like the color of our school desks. The floor. I can't talk about it because it's that horrible. You can't escape because the teacher bedrooms are at the gate. They live in barracks type barn things. Their house is filled with windows while we have one tiny one at the entrance.
The only good thing is we have no teachers in the building after classes are done. The only right we have is to decorate our room. Navy blue or gray. Most people pick navy blue. That would be my choice. Now the only things that keeps us from hanging ourselves. Friends. My friend Linda and I are really close. Closer than a banana and its peel. I have other friends but not that close as Linda and me.
"Miss Locket, if you like daydreaming you can stay after class and wash the chalkboards." Lady Penny snapped at me, I cringed involuntarily when she said my name. I had to be born with the worst name ever. Locket Pocket. God, I hate that name. Oh my gosh I just said his name in vein. Dear Lord, Im sorry forgive me. Amen.
"Im sorry Lady Penny. It won't happen again. Im sorry." I stood up and turned toward the class. "Im sorry class for interrupting valuable learning time" My face has to be so red right now. I turned my attention back to the notes while the class finished muttering "I forgive you."
I counted down the time I would get out of here. Wait, I forgot about the chalkboards. It may not seem like a hard task, but it is. We have several spinning chalkboards, students' chalkboards, and the big chalkboard in front of the class. This can take at least an hour by yourself.
Lady Penny is my least favorite teacher. First of all she has a giant zit right between her eyes. And a hairy mole on her left cheek. Plus I think she has it out for me. Her clothing always stays the same. Black turtleneck with a blazer and black pants with. Dare I say it? Snug boots. Their hideous who thought of mixing boots with crocs.
Thankfully the bell just sounded. I watched our teacher be the first one out the door. I walked toward the chalkboards moving slowly. I turned to the door one last time seeing Linda hang back.
"You're here to help me. I suppose."
"I can't let you stay here by yourself for at least an hour. Plus I think this room is haunted." She let out a small chuckle.
"Thank you. Thank you." I ran to her. I can't stand lady penny so I decided that we get revenge. I came up with the worst thing possible I wrote Die on the board. There was a sound of someone clearing their throat right behind me. I dropped the chalk and it broke in half. I couldn't breathe it felt like this invisible hand was choking me. I slowly turned around ANd saw my friend Sasha.
"Aren't you being naughty in the teacher classroom?" My friend Sasha said. She's the most opinionated person you will ever meet. She has silky black hair that stops toward her middle back. Even though she can be rude you have to love her.
I just noticed there were more girls behind her.
"How lllong hhave you been standing there?" I stuttered.
"Even though we've been watching you the whole time. You aint got to be embarrassed. Anyway we came to help you with the boards you got there. We can't just leave our girl stuck to do all the work. Can we?" Sasha announced.
Followed by a scattered of "no's"
We finished in about two in half hours. It took twice as long to do it than by myself. We kept throwing erasers and writing on the boards. When we finished it was time to go to bed.
"Awww, guys we missed dinner. We have to go to bed because the doors will automatically lock us in the classroom." They do this because they think were going to steal test answers or something.
We all headed off to our grumbling that we missed dinner. I said goodnight to Linda and the last thing I heard before I drifted off was the doors automatically locking us in.
