Chapter three - mission

'My father isn't dead?'

It had been almost 16 hours since Andrea and Nick had kidnapped Kelly and told her that her father was alive. They had said that they had to go and simply left, leaving Kelly with even more questions buzzing around in her head. She paced her room questioning everything that had happened before.

Occasionally people would come in and leave food or drink on the small wooden table in the corner of her room. Kelly didn't eat once. She was too preoccupied with what was going on. Every time someone entered or left her room, they would always lock the door behind them. She felt as if she was in a prison.

Quoting from a book she muttered, "not all prisons have bars." - Loki Staad from the book series Trylle Trilogy. A book that she had recently been reading.

Kelly had tried to break out once. When she heard the sound of the door knob turning, she had jumped off the end of the bed on her target. What she didn't count on was whoever had come in had a taser gun. The pain had shot through Kelly's spine and left her shaking on the ground like a fish on land. No. That wasn't the way to escape. That had gotten her handcuffed.

Rage builded up inside her. What did these people want with her? They had told her that her father was alive but for all she knew it could have been a lie! Frustrated, she kicked the pot plant by the door over. It was the only piece of decorative feature that was in this dull hell hole. The contents of the pot plant spilled out and the clay pot shattered on the ground.

If she was going to escape this place then she would have to be smarter. Do something that these people wouldn't expect-

The sound of a lock clicking interrupted Kelly's thoughts. She spun around. Just as she did so, Nick opened the door and stepped inside.

"Hey how are you doing?" He asked removing the handcuffs with a key that miraculously appeared in his pocket.

"Oh you mean other than the whole kidnapping, father-not-dead, locked-up, hand-cuffed fiasco? Yea. Just peachy." Kelly said sarcastically.

"I know what you're going through." He offered. sitting down on the bed. I remained standing looking down at him. "I know what its like. My mum passed a few years back. But it gets better. I promise."

Kelly didn't know what to say. She just stood there motionless.

"But hey. Look where I am now!" He said spreading his arm out wide, his smile mesmerising. "I know you must be so over whelmed by all this. I get it. Just give this place a chance eh?"

Our eyes locked. He smiled. I smiled back. He was just about to say something when he was interrupted.

"Hey Kelly I guess there's some more stuff you need answering so-" Andrea eyes widened in surprise at Nick being in my room and she just stood there in the doorway.

"Uh... yeah I guess I should be going then." Nick said quickly and made for the exit but Andrea stopped him. And gave him a side-wards glare

"Jack's here. He wants to fill in Kelly on the mission. Nick, he wants you to be there as well." She said.

Kelly was led to Jack's office. She tried to remember which way they had come and which turns they had made but it felt like they were going around and around in circles. She could have sworn they passed her room twice. But why would the do that? She dismissed the idea.

They entered Jack's office. It was quite large. Kelly estimated that it was at least two and a half times bigger than her own room.  On one side, was a massive desk with a globe on it. There were two huge bookshelves filled with books on the walls on either side of it. On the other side of the room, there was a low glass coffee table with two sofas on the side and a tall, elegant armchair next to the coffee table which was occupied by Jack. The sofas and armchair were all facing a fireplace which was lit, making the room cosy and warm. Andrea walked in casually and sat on one of the sofas and Kelly sat on the other. Nick came and sat next to Kelly, a little closer than what someone would normally.

"Ah yes. Kelly. I suspect Andrea and Nick have told you about your father's findings and told you about the mission." Jack said raising his eyebrows at the two of them.

"No sir. We told her about her father but we were interrupted." Andrea explained giving Nick a side-long glance. "Someone got out of HQ without authorisation. We had to go deal with it."

"And did you catch who ever it was?"

"No. They got away before we got there. No one knew who he or she was." Andrea said avoiding direct eye contact with Jack. Kelly had never seen her timid.

Jack bit his bottom lip. His knuckles were clenched. He was obviously trying to restrain himself.

"Anyway we didn't get a chance to tell Kelly about the mission and all the details on her father." Nick said breaking the silence. Jack looked at Kelly.

"Your father was abducted by Robinson Corp." he said flatly.

Kelly's jaw dropped. This meant that her father was alive!

"We suspect that they did so because he discovered C697. The name of the solution of the antidote for batrachotoxin. All we know is that this puts a big target on his back. We have recruited you here so that you can bring him back and destroy Robinson Corp. You have everything  required to become an agent of triple X."

Kelly was dumbfounded. Was this all really happening? Was her father really alive? She felt as though she was in a dream. Only in movies and books were teenagers ever recruited for spy schools and academies. This was all unreal. She just sat there awestruck.

Kelly looked over at Andrea and Nick. Andrea had a wide smile on her face and had her thumbs up. Nick had his irresistible smile on his face and his eyes were mesmerising. Kelly stared sheepishly at his stunning face for a while before snapping back into what ever reality this was.

"I'm in"

"Excellent." Jack exclaimed, the only bit of happiness Kelly had seen him express in the last day and it was a start.

He got up, walked to his desk draw and brought out a document. He brought it over and put it on the coffee table for Kelly to look at. It was a file with information on a person on it. Paper clipped to the document, was a picture of a boy. The boy looked about 2 years older than her. She checked the document. Yep. 17. He had dark hair and brown eyes. He was quite handsome. Kelly thought to herself for a second. But it was only a second. This person, whoever he was had abducted her father and it was time for revenge.

"Your first assignment agent." Jack said to her.

Kelly read aloud the bottom of the photograph where a name had been scribbled.

"Luke Robinson."
