"Those damn humans. It's all their fault. It's their fault my family is dead. I could never trust a human. I heard of an island where humans and dragons live together. I don't understand how they could do it. A ship had landed on my island. They killed most of us and set everything on fire. That's why I'm flying at this hour at night." Her wings grew heavy and her actions slowed from the lack of sleep. Upon her black scaled wings, were third-degree burns. She could do it anymore. She felt herself crashing down. "At least there's an island."
"Stay back! Give her room," A voice shouted. She slowly began gaining consciousness. The female nightfury shoot up from her laying position and growled at the crowd. "Woah, woah it's okay girl," The male said. She backed away from him and began flapping her wings. She yelped when she felt the burns. "I can't fly," She thought. "I need to run." With that thought, she ran off into the forest. Berk, a land where dragons and human live together. Where humans ride dragons. The nightfury found a cave. It was hidden behind tall trees and a couple bushes. She flopped down and breathed deeply. "Maybe I should've stayed. At least until after they helped me. I'm going to die here... but I can't find the strength to get up." Her eyes began closing again and all she felt was pain and fear.
"Hiccup, we need to go back," Astrid said. Hiccup denied and shook his head. "We can't. It's another Nightfury! A female one, too! We need to find her. Plus, you saw the shape she was in. She could die," He explained. She sighed and nodded. The two of them, along with Toothless and Stormfly continued looking for said dragon. Toothless heard a distant groan. He stopped in his tracks but the others continued. He stood there and thought about it for a couple seconds before going off in that directions. The male dragon had found the female Nightfury in the hidden cave. He nudged her shoulder and she backed away. "Hey," Toothless said. She flinched and responded. "Get away from me! Do-don't touch me." Toothless looked at her with confusion. "I won't hurt you," He replied. "We want to help." Outside of the cave, Hiccup could be heard yelling his name but he ignored it and continued talking to the female. "Do you have a name?" She shook her head. "I'm not going to tell you. Stay away!" She roared. Hiccup, Astrid, and Stormfly stood at the entrance. Hiccup took a couple steps forward but Toothless pushed him back with his tail. "Let us help you," Stormfly said. The nightfury shook her head. "I don't need help." Astrid turned to Hiccup. "I wonder what they are talking about." He shrugged.
"How did I get myself into this mess?" She thought. Toothless was carrying her on her back. She had to be at least half his size. Her wings were carefully folded against her back. "Are you doing okay, short stack?" Toothless chuckled. "Don't call me that!" She sneered. "Be nice to her, bud," Hiccup said. Toothless groaned and she snickered but stopped suddenly and took a deep breath. "What happened? Are you okay?" Toothless asked worriedly. "It hurts," She hummed. "Why am I trusting him? He trusts humans..." The group made it back to the village. Toothless followed Hiccup back to his house. A woman approached them. Toothless set her on the floor of the living room. Valka marveled at the dragon. "She's beautiful," She claimed. "Her eyes are such vibrant blues." Valka reached out to touch her but she flinched back. She retracted her hand and stared at the dragon in curiosity. "Mom, she's a little shy towards humans." The woman nodded and held her hand out to the nightfury. "I'm not going to hurt you, little one. I'm going to help, okay?" She looked towards Toothless and he nodded. "You can trust her," He added and did one of those toothy smiles. Instead of putting her head against her hand, she huffed and looked away from her. Valka slowly moved her and set it on her paw. The Nightfury watched her actions. The woman turned her paw over and looked at the scales. After further inspection, she didn't want to be touched by another human. There was so much poking and prodding. "What do you know about her?" There were other people in the room now. A set of twins, a stubby black haired guy, and a chubby blonde male. "Well, she's two years younger that Toothless and around half his size," Valka informed. "She's tiny for her age. Other than the third-degree burns and couple of cuts, she's fine." She stared at her wings. Bandages covered the cuts and a foul smelling slime covered the burns. "Hey, girl," Hiccup got her attention and kneeled beside her. He held his hand out to her but she ignored it. "Can we name her?" The pair of twins snickered. "Ruffnut, Tuffnut, that's not going to happen," Astrid said. She laid her head down and to the best of her ability, ignored the rest.
The next morning, Hiccup walked into the house after getting some fish. The door opening frightened the female nightfury. He set the basket down in front of her. "So, I was thinking," He sighed. She hummed and ate the fish. "How do you feel about the name Sapphire?" She stopped eating and looked up at the boy. She nodded. "I like that name!" He chuckled and took the now empty basket. "Wait, what am I doing? It's not like I'm staying. What the hell is wrong with me? I can't trust humans! They killed my family... but not all humans are the same right?" She thought. "Would it be so bad to stay? Just because I stay doesn't mean that I have to trust the humans fully or let them fly me." Sapphire watched as Hiccup moved around the room. Finally, he sat down and began writing in his notebook. Toothless came trotting in and sat next to her. He spat up some fish in front of her. "This is for you!" He smiled brightly. "You should eat that," Sapphire replied. "But I got it for you," he replied sadly and frowned. She sighed and ate some.
Hiccup stood next to Astrid. Both Nightfuries were inside the house. "Do you think Toothless likes Sapphire?" Hiccup asked the blonde girl next to him. "Probably. I want to seem some baby Nightfury dragons," She chuckled. "We wanted to name her!" Ruffnut groaned. "Shut up," Tuffnut scoffed. "We're not letting you name any of the nightfuries," Hiccup said. "I don't see what the big problem is," Snotlout said. "Barf and Belch," Astrid sighed. They shrugged. They walked inside the house and looked at the two dragons. Sapphire's head was rested on her paws, Toothless sat right beside her with his wing around her, and both their eyes were shut.
