I skipped the rest of my lessons for the day and just sat in my room. I was angry at the fact that my father literally ruins everything. Ever since I was little all he has ever done is ruin things. He ruined his marriage by drinking, he ruined our relationship by drinking even more, and he almost ruined my relationship with CJ. Thankfully CJ and I worked everything out. Now my father is ruining Hogwarts by making me miserable even though he's thousands of miles away. I hate how much that man can affect me.
The door of my dorm opened and Laura came in, "Why weren't you at lessons?" She asked. I threw the letter at her and she took a minute to read it. Then she looked at me with pity in her eyes. "I'm sorry Brittnie," she said.
"What else did I expect the man has ruined my life ever since I was born. I guess habits are hard to break," I said in a harsh voice.
She sat down on my bed, "Brittnie if it makes you feel better you can come home with me for Christmas," she said now smiling hoping I'll say yes.
I smiled back, "That would be awesome, but I would have to ask my parents."
"Great then that's settled I'll send an owl to my parents and you can send one to yours," she said now all excited. "Come on lets go hang out with the boys," she said getting up, "Oh by the way i said that you didn't feel well after lunch. So if anyone ask just say you ate something that didn't agree with you or something."
"Okay, thanks for cover for me," I said then got up and followed her down the common room.
We got there and I saw Jake and Kas sitting on one of the sofas talking. Kas looked up and smiled at me. I sighed in relief, thank god he wasn't mad at me for shaking him off earlier.

"Hey girls what's up," Jake said sounding more cheerful than usual. I put the back of my hand on his forehead. "What are you doing?" he asked swatting my hand away.
"Making sure you don't have a fever," I said with a smile. Kas laughed beside him.
Jake looked at me then asked, "What is that supposed to mean?"
Laura laughed, "It means you actually sound a little less serious for once." We all laughed, but Jake just sat there almost pouting.
"Whatever you jerks," Jake said getting up and sitting on a different couch.

Laura looked over at him, "It's okay big brother we still love you." She sat down on his lap and kissed his cheek. He pushed her off and rolled his eyes.
I sat down next to Kas who scooted closer to me and whispered, "You okay?"
I blushed at how close he was, then I nodded, "Yeah I'm good now." At that he scooted back over.
Laura stood up, "So I have an idea." Thankfully we were the only ones in the common room or we would have gotten stares.

"Oh here we go with another one of your great ideas," Jake said sarcastically.
She scowled at him. "So we were learning about mandrakes in Herbology, and saw that people used them to become animagi. So I was thinking that we could try it," She finished explaining her idea. I had heard of animagi, they are wizards that turn into animals at will.
"No way Laura," Jake said, "becoming an animagi is extremely time consuming and very dangerous." Jake sounded even more serious than usual. "If you mess up one little thing you can become some mutant hybrid and end up with a tail or ears."
"Then we won't mess it up," she said, "Plus don't you think it would be fun to turn into an animal?" She had a point it would be really fun, but at what cost.
I leaned towards Laura, "What do you have to do?" I asked.
Kas looked at me like I was crazy, "Not you too." I smiled at him and I saw his cheeks redden a little.
Jake stood up and started to explain, "Well you have to have a leaf of a mandrake root in your mouth for a whole month. You can't take it out to eat or sleep. Then after the month you have to wait for the next visible full moon and put it in a phial. You also need dew that hasn't been exposed to sunlight or stepped on for seven days. Then after you get all the ingridients you have to wait for an electrical storm to take the potion." He paused for a moment, "But most importantly you have to register and all three of you are to young. Also, if you don't register you can be sent to Azkaban." Jake looked at Laura with satisfaction.

She raised her eyebrow at him, "I wasn't planning to tell anyone." Jake's face reddened with anger.
"You're going to risk going to Askaban so that you can turn into an animal?!" He asked in a angry voice.
She had a devious look on her face, "James Potter and his friends did it. So why can't we?" I tensed at the name Potter.
Kas looked at me, "Brittnie are you sure you're okay?" He asked.
I took a deep breath, "Yeah, I just haven't heard that name in awhile," I said knowing how weird that sounded.
"What? The Potters are the most famous wizard family in the world," Laura said.
I looked at them not exactly knowing what to say, "Well my Grandma kind of went to school with him." I saw all there eyes widen.
"Was she a Ravenclaw too?" Jake asked.
"No, she was a Slytherin," I cringed as I said it.
Laura's nose crinkled, "You're related to a Slytherin?"
I nodded, "Yes, but from what my brother told me she was truly a wonderful lady. My grandpa was the mean one."
Kas spoke, "It doesn't matter that your grandmother was a Slytherin it's not like they are all evil." He smiled at me apologetically.
"Anyway if one of the most heroic wizards can do it without getting in trouble so can we," Laura said looking at her oldest brother.
I smiled, "I agree with her."
"Of course you do," Jake said flopping back on the couch.
Laura smiled grew even wider, "It's settled then Brittnie and I are doing. The question is are you?" She looked at her brothers.
"Yes," Jake said in defeat, "but only to make sure you don't mess it up."
"Kas?" I asked.
He sighed, "Fine."
