Jax POV
The bell rang signaling the end of this everlasting day. I couldn't help but gaze at the all to mysterious and fiery girl know as Dandelion West.
She was beautiful, there's no denying that, but I never really knew if I liked her or not. The main girl in my life was my little six year old sister McKenna, the only stable and sane thing I have left in my life. See my mom's sick, like seriously sick with lung cancer, and the doctors say she is planned to die within the next three months. When my dad found out about her time and condition he hasn't been the same since. The only reason I still go home and don't spend all my time at the hospital is because of McKenna. Eventually we have to go home to get basic stuff, but I can't risk him hurting her. I'd rather risk my life then watch him hurt her.
I was on my way to pick up McKenna from school, before going to the hospital to see my mom, before my game tonight. As soon as I turned the corner, I saw the school. And almost on cue the bell rang and came rushing tons of little kids. That's when I saw Kenna come rushing towards me. I immediately picked her up and spun her around before carrying her.
"So how was your day beautiful?" I asked her as she gleamed brightly down at me. "Amazing! I got to play all day. Also, do I get to go to your games tonight J?" She said. " Sounds like a fun day munchkin and I don't see why you can't come to the game so why not." I said answering her question she was obviously anxiously awaiting an answer for. " Yay your the best big bro!" "Anything for you, munchkin" I said by the time our conversation was up we were almost at the hospital to see my mom.
I put Kenna down and we went up to the third floor, which is where they held the critical and fatal cancer patients. That's when I saw door 397. It's been my mom's room for the past six months. As Kenna and I walked in, I saw my mom getting her hourly checkup.
So many needles surrounded her sometimes it was hard to watch. As all the gorgeous light that she used to have all the time was fading faster then the flash could run from central city to star city.
"Mommy" Kenna yelled rushing towards her, engulfing her in a hug. "Not so tight Ken your gonna break mom." I jokingly yelled to her. As I walked closer to give my mom a hug. "Hey mom" I said smiling while giving her a light hug.
"Hi my beautiful darlings" My mom said with a smile. "Are you playing today mijo" my mom asked. She always cared about how well I did with basketball and always wanted me to do what I loved. "Ya, Kenna and I we're gonna head there soon. Although, I was wondering if you could watch her, while I run home to grab my bag real quick." I asked. "Of course go on J" Mom said with a grin as she started to play with Kenna.
Then I was off to the hell hole of my life, my home. Where the demon himself slept, my father. He used to be great always helping me with my school work and basketball, but when we found out about mom everything changed. He started going out more and coming home less and less. By the time we decided to put my mom up in the hospital, to focus on chemo, he lost it. That was the day when my dad was lost. He came home the most drunk I've ever seen him. He started to cuss out everything and was yelling at me and my sister. When I told him to stop, he punched me square in the jaw. My little sister saw all of this and it wasn't just a one time thing it was just the first of many blows to me, in hopes of protecting my sister.
As I walked in to the house I saw him passed out an the couch. I really did not wanna have to deal with that right now, so I rushed upstairs to grab my bag and get out of here as soon as possible. When I came rushing down stairs I saw him standing there staring at me. That's when I knew that this wouldn't be a quick stop.
"Wow look what the cat dragged in. My worthless piece of shit, I call a son." My dad said drunkly to me. His breath smelled awful like I could get drunk off just smelling it.
"What do want. I have a game I need to get to without you getting in my way." I said trying to shove past him before he slammed me into the ground.
"I'm in your way. Ha! No, correction your in my way." He yelled angrily, as he started walking towards me. "All you ever do is get in the way. You take my money and this house. You took my life away." He was shouting at this point. Then he did something I've become way to accustomed with. He punched me in the face bruising my eye and lip. Once I was disoriented, he kicked me right in the ribs on to the ground. "Never say I'm the one in your way ever again" He furiously shouted at me, before he kicked my ribs and stumbled away.
I was trying my hardest not to cry or fight back. So I just lifted my self up, rushed to my motorcycle outside, plugged my headphones in, blasted some Wonder Years, and focused on getting back to the hospital, so I could get to my game.
When I turned into the hospital to park, I heard sirens going off behind me. That's when an officer got up and walked up to me. I took my helmet off and saw the cop walking up to me. "Son are you aware of how fast you were going" he said walking up to me, before he saw who it was and stopped right in his tracks when he saw my bruised face.
"Jaxon Navoa what the hell happen to your face?" He question shouted at me.
"Nothing Keeney, I just fell. No big deal. I gotta pick up my little sis before my game in 20 minutes. If it's cool I might be going." I said trying to reassure him nothing was wrong.
"Alright son, but if I find out you were fighting or worse I'm gonna hunt you down. Also don't speed again." He said.
"Anything for you Keeney" I yelled while trying to run back inside. As soon as I walked in, I rushed to the nearest bathroom, while trying to hide my face. I reached into my bag and pulled out my concealer. Before you make fun of me, for guy wearing makeup or some shit like that, it's only to cover up my bruises, so no one will question me. I took it out and covered everything in five minutes then rushed up stairs to grab Kenna and head to the game.
"Hey munch we gotta go or I'm gonna be late." I told her as I walked into my mom's room. "Alright J let's go" she said happily as she gave my mom a goodbye hug and came running at me. I caught her and slung her easily on to my side.
"Bye mijo, good luck at your game." My mom smiled sheepishly at me. "Of course mom see you after." I said and Kenna and I were off to the school.
Once we got to school I had five minutes till I had to be in the locker room. I had to get Kenna safely in her seat before I even considered leaving her.
"Why if it isn't Jaxon and McKenna Navoa." A lady that I called Ms. Jason. She was my best friend Rory's mom. "Why yes it is and I'm gonna be late if I don't get Kenna a seat here soon." I told her while walking towards her.
"Well I could always watch her for you. Go on I've got her." She told me while grabbing Kenna's hand. "Alright, thank you. Give me hug before the game munch, and I'll see you guys after." I said smiling, as my little sister rushed to give me my good luck hug. After that I sprinted to the locker room, with nearly a minute to spare.I said hi to the guys, before quickly getting changed, trying to hide my abdomen in the process. I don't usually cover my bruises on my stomach with makeup, so I just usually try to hide them while changing. Once I was done changing, I looked in the mirror making sure everything was hidden, then walked out with my best friend Rory, to meet up with most of the team outside.
That's when I saw her, sitting right there in the middle of the crowd. We made short eye contact, before I turned away to focus on the game. Because that's what really matters, not just some extra ordinary girl in the crowd.
