Zera: a school for the Gifted

Prologue

it was a warm day in the cloud city of Herzera, the buildings were ancient, well everything was ancient, but this city was doubly so. it towered over all people who walked is soft cloudy streets with its huge glowing white marble structures

into this scene walks a young girl, May, and her father, Edgar. when suddenly in this idealistically quiet paradise of a city comes fire, fire everywhere and out of that fire came figures seven feet tall and skin either bleached red or scorched black they had tails as sharp as daggers and longer than a car, and these figures had horns like an ox. many magicians and half-magicians made heroic last stands against these creatures but it was no use and they were mowed down like wild dogs.

Edgar grabbed May in his arms and ran, he longed to fight and to drive away these creatures but his young daughter mattered the world to him and he had to protect her. he ran for what seemed like hours and finally reached his house on the outskirts of Herzera, "grab only the necessary, we need to go!", he shouted to his wife Sira as he entered the house, "Edgar, Whats Happening?!?" she questioned. "No time to explain, Just Get the girls and let's Go" came the response. Sira grabbed May's sister Dawn into her arms and they all ran out the door. they went west from the house into a forest, the forest was dark even though it was only early evening and all the trees seemed to be gnarled and jagged.  by the time they reached the other side of the forest night had fallen and the moon was out in its full glory, the family stumbled quietly to a small cottage in the wilderness and Edgar frantically knocked on the door, after a couple seconds a short middle-aged man opened the door and was visibly shocked to see Edgar bursting into his house, Edgar stood in the middle of this one roomed house and spoke to the man in silent hushed tones, eventually the man hugged Edgar and Edgar, after kissing his wife goodbye left the hut. May or Dawn would never see their father again.
