Chapter One

The air around me is cool, and is slowly waking me from my peaceful sleep. I curled up into a ball under the warmth of my duvet, trying to go back to sleep for however long I have left before I have to get up for college. I pulled my duvet up to cover my nose, as I can feel the tip of it, and that is never a good thing. I tried to relax my mind back into a stage of unconsciousness, when my mind started to whirr with my to-do list for the day.

I sighed when I realized my brain isn't going to shut up anytime soon, and stuck my hand out to search for my phone on the bedside locker. The second my arm left the warmth of my duvet I could feel the goose bumps raise a meter in height. I look at the time and groan in annoyance. It's half four in the morning, I don't need to get up until eight! Another night with less than four hours sleep. I got up from my bed and turned on my radiator, and hurried to pull on my fluffy dressing gown. I've lived in this house for the past two years with my two best friends, Sage and Lacey and my best guy friend, Niall.

I turned on my laptop and started working some more on my business paper, we got it two days ago, but between my sleepless nights, and the fact I just broke up with my boyfriend, I've had enough time to finish half of it, as well as work on my biology course, catch up on my accounting notes, and perfect my newest recipe for culinary class. Yes, I've had that much free time on my hands. But I don't mind it, I'm not grumpy during the days, and I'm doing well in school.

As for my last boyfriend, I broke up with him a week ago, and to be honest, I'm kinda glad. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a player, I just don't like the whole commitment thing that much. Plus, he wasn't that great to be around, he was way too clingy, never giving me anytime alone, and when it came to kissing, let's just say he's not the best . . . or anywhere near it. We were together for three months, it was nice . . . just not amazing . . . in any way.

But anyways, as I sat down in front of my computer and tried to focus in on my screen. All I could see was blurs, and after five minutes of squinting and rubbing my eyes, trying to remove the crust from the corner of my eyes, I gave up and went downstairs to start making breakfast for all of us. I started by making some pancake batter, and then once that was done I put it in the fridge for a few hours, while I started making chocolate chip muffins, and putting them in the oven. When I was finished with that, I got out the croissant dough I prepared last night and started to cut and roll them to form perfect croissants, and place in the oven. It was half six now, so I prepared a fruit salad, put it in the fridge and then got out all the trimmings for a fry up.

By the time I laid the table, and the croissants were finished, I heard the sound of footsteps. They were heavy and oh so familiar footsteps heading down the stairs. Niall usually is the first one up, and so I turned on the other ring, and started on the first pancake. I know what you're thinking, this seems like a lot of work, but to be completely honest, I love cooking and baking, and that's why I'm taking culinary classes. You probably also think I'm fat too, well . . . you can guess again, I'm lucky, I have a really fast metabolism, plus I do a lot of roller skating, and it burns off so many calories, I even find it hard to believe!

I hear Niall deep voice greet me, "Hey Marcey, what's for breakfast today?"

I smile, "Croissants, pancakes, fruit salad and a fry. Plus there's chocolate chip muffins cooling."

I sneak a glance at his face as he smiles, he's tall, 5'9, with shaggy blonde hair, and emerald green eyes. He's cute, but we're great friends, and well, I just don't think of him in that way, after all, we live together. He loves my cooking, and is always happy when he wakes up to smell my baked goods. I flipped over his pancake, to see the perfect golden colour, and quickly slapped Niall's hand away as I saw him try to grab a muffin beside me. Niall is a pig when it comes to food, but he's studying in fitness, and so is always training in the gym, and therefore can eat all my cooking and still have a six pack, I know this because once a week I go to the gym with him to swim, same way he always comes to my roller derby rally's. We're just close like that, things with him are never really awkward, something I love about him.
