When I walked through the door I saw Maddie sitting at our little table by the window. As I made my way to her she waved with great excitement, a bit too much and she almost fell out of her chair making her laugh like crazy. And it was funny but I wasn't in the laughing mood.
When I got to her I pulled out the pink chair and plopped down on its cool wooden seat.
"A bit chilly in here." I said not making eye contact with her.
"A bit." She said back. "Took you long enough to get here." She added.
"Yeah, I, uh got caught up on the way." I stuttered. Her eye brows rose in curiosity.
"Really? By who?" She said excitement filling her voice.
"Um, not really anyone I just took my time."
"You cant let this take over your life May." Maddie said taking a sip of her coco she must have ordered before I got there. It must have tasted pretty good the way her mouth crammed into a smile after she swallowed.
"Its not. You know how I am. I just think, a lot." I said grabbing for her coco. Which did not work out how I thought. Maddies hand knocked mine out of the way hitting the cup as well and sending it off the table and to the tile floor. It laid on its side spilling its hot contents. What a waste of what looked like some great hot chocolate, I thought as I reached down and picked up the cup. Maddie grabbed some napkins and started to clean it up as a boy come out from behind the counter with a towel. He handed it to her and gave me a smile before heading back.
"Who's that?" I whispered as I grabbed some napkins and finished helping her clean up.
"That's Ian, he works here. Why?" She asked.
"Oh nothing, he is just kinda cute, don't cha think?" I said pulling my gaze from the floor to the boy as he poured some older women tea. His brown hair fell into his eyes as he looked up to hand the women her drink. He smiled and handed it over. Wow, is all I could think as he smile took over my mind. All I could think was how I didn't want to think of anything else.
"May, hey May?" Maddie said after what seemed like minutes but im sure was only seconds.
"What?" I said calmly.
"Dude, you were totally just checking him out, like big time." She said giggling. "Like it was as if you were sizing him up for a meal. What do you think May, is he on the menu for tonight?" She teased.
"Shut up!" I squealed, I could feel my face turning red. "So how about that ice cream you promised?" I said changing the subject.
"Oh yeah. Hey some vanilla ice cream for me and my friend Ian!" She screamed. I guess she knew him decently if she was willing to scream at him like that. But that was Maddie she wasn't really afraid of people or what they would think, unlike me.
After awhile Ian brought us over two ice creams.
"Thank you." I nodded.
"Yeah, thank you Ian." Maddie said in a some what seductive voice.
"Maddie! Don't talk like that to him," I said in a hushed yell as he walked away.
"Getting a bit jealous May?" She said as I followed her up and out the door.
