I'd always liked Derek. He seemed like a good guy, a good friend. Well I suppose he still does.
I always wanted Leia and Derek to end up together. Call me crazy, but after everything that happened, I still do. Specifically, I remember this one time, in January or February. Derek came in,
Thursday, January 11th
he's having a conversation with Leia and Rebecca. Well, it's more like yelling. Not angry, just loud. Excited. Leia sits down next to me with her typical goofy smile plastered across her face. She slams her books down on the desk beside mine with a big thud.
"Derek's taking me to a dance!" she exclaims. Derek turns around to face us, joining our conversation.
"Well, no-" he is cut off by Rebecca rushing over and shouting, "Me too!"
"What?" I ask. "I'm confused. Who? WHICH? Where?"
"It's a jewish gathering thing, not really a dance" Rebecca replies. "Derek's taking both of us."
"How does that work?" I question.
"It's not like an actual date," Leia responds, still at the top of her lungs, as per usual.
"...yeah..." Derek agrees, likely pondering what had just happened, as am I.
Throughout class, Leia continues to ask Derek if he's excited for the dance. I can't understand why, seeing as every time his answer is the same, "Yes."
I make eyes contact with Kevin, who sits on the desk on my right. I know he's thinking the same thing I am.
They're both so blind.
