Chapter 4
Escaping the Duke of Hell
"God help me, I don't know what is happening but please help me get out of here safely," I pray for what seemed like the tenth time. Rubbing my eyes aggressively to stop the tears from falling, I finally look up to the door the two things went through. It is the only door in the room. Surveying the room carefully, I identify the room as some sort of nasty chamber. The wall is filled with gray bricks and the floor is matching it. The only light in the room is a torch on the wall, though even small for size, it makes the whole room visible.
Reaching one foot on the floor I feel a strange sensation in my head; ignoring it, I move my right foot to the floor and try to get up. Just as I get up, the feeling in my head hits again, this time much harder. "Ah!" Getting knocked off my feet and back to the bed, I realize it was the whack on my head that is making it hurt so much. "How did I even get in this mess...?" I burry my face into my hands and wonder what caused that nightmare, and now this.
"Okay, one more time," I tell myself as I get up slowly, thankful that I'm alright. Walking slowly to the large door, I notice something quite strange. There is a glowing red orb on the handle, "might as well try and open it," I say as I reach my hand out. When I touched the door knob, I jump back and yelp from the burn. Trying not to scream from the pain, I endure it and just bite my lips, hoping to not cause too much noise. The last thing I want is to have those things come back to me; but how do I get out of here? Looking around curiously while rubbing my hand to make the pain go away, I notice a few buckets next to the bed. Taking a few steps to it, a new sense of relief washes over me as I see water filled inside of it. Picking it up, I make my way back to the door and ready myself, hoping to God that this will work. With a step back and the bucket in my right hand, I throw the water to the knob and hear a sizzling noise come from it. Smoke filled the room as the water disappeared into the door. Coughing and coughing, finally the smoke disappeared and the door was free from a strange red orb. "Why make it so easy to get rid of though?"
Without asking any more questions to myself, I grab ahold of the black knob and push the door open. With a loud creaking noise escaping the room, I bite my lips and hope it does not catch much attention. Finally with enough room to go through the door, I poke my head out and cannot see a thing. There is complete darkness and a chill runs down my spine from the complete silence in whatever was on the other side. Taking a deep breath, I close my eyes and say a little prayer. After a few seconds, I grab the torch off the wall and go through the large door.
With some light I notice that I am in a hallway that leads left and straight. I go with my gut and turn left. My foot hitting the ground fills the quiet room and my heart beats so hard that it feels like it will rip right out of my chest.
For what seemed like an eternity, I finally make it through the hall and reach two doors. One on the left and one on the right. Keeping the fire away from my face, I go to the left door and press my ear to it and try to hear what is on the other side... Silence. Going for the knob, I try to turn it only to notice that it is locked. Sighing, I try for the right door. Just as I make it to the door and ready myself to press my ear to it, I hear a noise from the end of the hall.
"We need to take her to master now, so make sure you do not scare her too much when we pick her up," the voice that sounds like Tarkooni said. I think he is talking to Barchar, and they sound like they are in front of the door. I need to hide before they see the torch!
Opening the door, ignoring what may be on the other side, I push myself in, thankful that it is unlocked and close the door behind me. Holding in my breath to make sure I do not speak a word, I flash the torch around to see what room I am in. It is a small room with the same bricks from my room and hallway. It is filled with boxes and buckets. Taking a few steps through the room, I see a table with books, papers, and on top of them all, a letter. I pick it up and bring it close to the fire to make out the words. It is addressed to a man named Seir... Seir! He is the one who was marked on my chest. It reads:
Dear Seir,
It would be best if you stayed away from the girl, Christiana. I know she was yours all those centuries ago, but it is a new time and she is much different. The only thing about her that is like Lilim, is her blood. Christina will not have any memory from Lilim, so do not think this is the woman you were oh so desperately in love with before. I only tell you this because I know the things you will do once you hear that her blood has been awakened. Try not to cause too much trouble in the human world, that is all I warn you about.
Sincerely,
Dantalion
My heart seemed to stop when I finished the letter, not only because of the multiple uses of my name, but the part where it said human world. So this must be hell then? "What's going on around here?"
What makes me wonder even more though is why is this letter here? Those two things took the mark off my chest, that I know; but why would they take it off if that was their master? This only means that the one who calls itself Dantalion is their master. "If I weren't in such a situation, I would laugh at such a name, but my God this is all too much," I let go of the letter and see it fall onto the table, though it fell on the back side, revealing a new source of writing. Picking it back up in a hurry, I read the following.
Dantalion,
Your letter means nothing at all. Of all people you should understand the most of why I will act on this. My poor Lilim died a horrible death all those centuries ago. I could not stand it; and now with this mystery girl here, everything will be as it once was. I am sorry but I must deny your request of not acting out on this.
Seir
"So this letter was sent back to him, which means I am for sure in the hands of Dantalion right now," when I finish speaking to myself, I hear a scream that comes from those two little demons.
"Where is she!?" They both scream in unison.
To the corner of my eye, I notice a metal pipe. Grabbing it, I think to myself, I could use it as a weapon or a lock. Knowing myself I would probably lose the fight right away, so I march to the door and stick the pipe through the knob and to the door, preventing anything from coming in and getting out. Taking a few steps back, I hear the footsteps coming closer in the hallway. I silently go back to the table and try to find something useful. If anything. There is a shelf to my left, so I open it to find a long dagger. Even with this my relief is not taken away. I rush to the large window and hear Barzar say, "They are both locked, I will go the other way, you try and open the door!"
"Crap!" I whisper to myself in fear that something will happen to me. Looking out the window, I see trees, and that is all. Just endless amount of trees; however, there is a ledge I can hold onto and probably find a way out. Going to the back of the room where the table is, I throw everything off of it and flex all of my muscles. Lifting the large table with all I got, I manage to run and throw it out the window, causing a very loud shatter. Just as I did that, the door starts to bang, and that is when I know it is my cue.
Running to the window while trying to catch my breath, I tuck the long knife into my boot and start slowly for the ledge. "You can do this Christina," I tell myself as self-motivation. Sliding through the cold outside and hoping there will be something to get into, I scream and nearly fall off when thunder erupts from the sky. Just as I almost fall, something grabs ahold of my arm, without even looking, I know it is not one of those monsters, only because this hand that grabbed me was much larger, more like a human hand.
Yelping from the grab, I get pulled into a balcony. The balcony is large and the entrance to it is covered by elegant red drapes. "What in the-," before I could finish my sentence, I turn and notice the object that grabbed me. A tall man with a red coat stands before me.
"You have caused quite a lot of trouble since you woke up, I am Dantalion," the man says with confidence, his face still a mystery, and my heart still pounding heavily.
So it has been a while since I have updated so I am sorry! But I really hope you guys are enjoying this, I know I am when I write it! If there is anything you want to ask me go right ahead! Thanks for reading :)
