~Time skip brought to you by a bunch of a-holes~
""No Drax, for the last time, Jelly Babies are not made of any sort of baby!" I yelled, with my mouth half full of the confectionary.
"Then why give them such a misleading name?" Drax questioned.
I groaned and threw one at the man who ducked and it flew in Rockets direction. I scrunched my eyes shut and prepared for a good yelling.
Nothing.
I opened my eyes and a flying Jelly Baby hit me right between the eyes. Rocket burst into laughter and I did too. I got closer to Rocket and Drax over the first month. They were always down for a game of poker and were interesting to watch. Drax because he could crush anything, like I literally could throw anything at him and it would turn to dust, and Rocket because he could build whatever the fuck I wanted. I asked for a shoe rack once as a joke cause my shoes were cluttering my tiny room and he built one. I may have cried of laughter once he did it but it made me happy all the same. I grew close to Gamora too, she took me shopping for a new set of clothes, a dress, and a pair of new boots. She also taught me how to fight! And Quill was always down for a bit of fun whether it was messing with the others or causing a bit of havoc in cities. And then there's Groot. He was easy to talk to, a great listener, and my collection of flowers had grown lot. His favourite to give me was always pear blossoms, which I found out meant everlasting friendship.
"Don't throw things at me next time eh [Y/N]?" Rocket said, patting my arm as he walked past me and towards the cockpit.
I blushed. "Y-yeah sure." I said, rubbing the back of my neck.
There was also a new problem. Butterflies. In my stomach. Around Rocket.
I had spent a lot of time with him sure, more than the rest of the crew, but I never expected that from the time I spent with him I would develop any feelings for him. At first I thought 'Woah! No! He is a raccoon! You can't be thinking about a raccoon like that.' But after a while I figured that he's a walking, talking raccoon with the ability to express emotion in a human manner and I was in the middle of space with new and weird aliens around me 24/7. So basically, my brain hit 'Fuck it'. Additionally, I noticed that when I had the choice to pick someone to hang out with I'd always choose Rocket if he was available or when he wanted someone to go somewhere with him I would offer every time, even if I had something important to do. Don't get me wrong I'd still offer to go with other people too, heck sometimes I would go out on my own! But I loved going with Rocket more often than not. The pros definitely outweighed the cons when it came to Rocket. I loved watching him work, pulling apart guns and fixing them, creating bombs in his spare time and the way his face lit up when he modified the Milano; I could look at that all day.
Anyway, I put away my Jelly Babies and headed to the cockpit too. I wanted to ask Quill if I could play my music on the stereo.
"Hey Star-Loser. Can I use the stereo" I asked from behind his chair, making him jump a little.
He took off his headphones. "Yeah sure, just not too loud I'm trying to listen to my music here too."
"Sure." I bounced to the ladder and slid down to the stereo.
Rocket taught me how to install an AUX plug into the old stereo for my phone. I pulled out the cord and plugged it in. I turned up the volume to 12 and played Katrina & The Waves' "Walking On Sunshine".
"Mmmmmm yeah, I used to think maybe you loved me, now baby I'm sure." I hummed, dancing around like a fool picking up the tools I needed to fix my gun. I shook my leg to the tune under the desk as I started on the task. It seemed to get jammed quite a bit.
"I'm walking on sunshine. WHOA." I sang loudly. Then continued to take apart the damn thing. "I might need to invest in a new gun." I whispered into the machine as I scanned it for the problem.
"Nice singing." I jumped, Rocket was leaning against the ladder. "Also you dance like a stripper." I blushed heavily as he started to walk towards the table. "It took you long enough to figure out that your gun is beyond busted." He climbed a seat to sit across from me. There was a long silence as I pretended to examine the object. "You can't see the problem can you." He bluntly stated.
"No." I lied.
He sighed, dragging the gun to the centre of the table and leaning over it, I leant in to listen. And look. And admire.
"What is the problem?" He questioned.
"I pull the trigger and it clicks without firing."
"I told you to buy the better ammo." He shifted "There's a gunk build up here," he pointed near the firing pin "it's preventing the firing pin from moving forward. The firing pin is also weak, you'll need to replace that, and the trigger mechanism is covered in gunk too. Take that out and give it a good cleaning."
He looked up as I finished studying the places he pointed too, pretending to be learning. I took in the shape of the pin and damn he was right, it was bent, the gunk was on overload in my gun and I truly needed to get better ammo but I could not afford it. I hated it when he noticed more than I did on a first glance, I would have figured it out just after I dealt with the initial gunk problem. I knew what the problem was; it was just listening to Rocket that I enjoyed. Stupid me. Now better ammo, that was a problem, because there was no way I was ever telling the crew I was broke. I looked up and his face was inches away from mine, staring intently at me.
"Umm, Rocket? You okay?" I asked.
"Huh? Oh, yeah I'm fine." He sat back. "You know, I need someone to come get some upgrades with me, you wanna come with me? You can get your parts." He headed to the ladder. "And better ammo."
I bit my lip at that last part and cursed inwardly at my inability to 'procure' money on other planets.
"Sure." Fuck.
"Alright, I gotta go back to the cockpit, Quill really can't drive when intoxicated."
I laughed. "Yeah you got that right," I turned my attention back to the gun "also tell Quill I want him to play his mixtape in the stereo."
"[Y/N], no." He whined.
"Rocket, yes." I mocked.
The ship jolted left.
"Nah, ask him yourself. I've gotta get back to driving this thing before Star-Lunatic kills us all."
I snickered and headed upstairs behind him, bumping into Groot on the way who handed me a purple Lilac.
"Thanks." I smiled and carried on behind Rocket. Damn that flower smelt nice.""
