(Mia POV)

BRIIIIINNGGGGG

Shit. The bell had rung for math. The only class of the day that I regretted the most. Mainly because I never had my any of my assignments done. For a nerd, you would expect me to have every single assignment done and turned in on time, teacher’s pet, rows of A’s overpopulating my report card, and lustrous metallic medals hanging from my walls. Of course the package isn’t complete without being the captain of every academic team the school had and that cocky, over-confident attitude. Hell no. I was the total opposite. You know who changed me? Well you’re just about to find out.

Shuffling of papers sounded as the teacher arrived. A petite and brittle asian woman scurried in, smoothing down her skirt anxiously as she took a seat in the teacher’s desk.

“Good morning students. I’m Ms. Williams. I’ll be your substitute for the day today since you regular teacher is out sick.” That’s no surprise. Our assigned teacher had never even attended one class this year. There was always a new substitute at the door everyday. So of course, the class adapted to it. She rambled on and on about the schedule for the day until the classroom door clicked open. Eyes darted to the direction of the sound. Two guys walked in, one basically stumbling. Also a very typical recurrence.

“Late to class for the fourth time this week boys?” Ms. Williams queried while studying the physical appearance of the wasted baboons that had just disrupted the classroom. It was Austin Gold and his jock delinquent who was on the football team, Cody Hart.

Gross. The mention of Austin's name disgusted me, let alone his presence. So what if he's hotter than the sun, has the sexiest hair and the biggest biceps I've ever seen? Way out of my league. And maybe that's not the only big thing- *wink* *wink*

“Get used to it hun. The other fifty subs have.” Austin slurred and Cody grinned like a cheshire cat. Clearly they were high. “So what shit is this one gonna teach us today?” He remarks. What an asshole.

“Excuse me Mr. Hart and Mr. Gold, please take your seats and mind your language.” Mrs. William’s tone was stone cold. Austin muttered something to himself and took his normal seat next in the back of the class.

Technically, moving here a full month before school started still qualifies you for a the title of “new girl”. Ugh. On top of that, I'm failing the only class that will earn me a scholarship for college; math. Letters don’t even belong in geometry you know? Then again I can assure you that half the class full of assholes are failing the finals. At least I won't be the only one.

“Ms. Cruz? Are you alright?” I snapped out of my daze and turned to the teacher.

“Y-yeah I'm fine.”

“You need to be paying attention, you’re already failing my class and I'm sure you're well aware of it.” Well its not her class. A couple laughs escaped around the room.

“See me after class.”

I nod and go back to work. By the time the bell rang, I had a blank paper and a frustrated expression plastered on my face. The teacher motioned for me to come and I trudged over as the students buzzed out the door.

“A D- is not acceptable. Summer school is the only option Ms. Cruz.” I wasn't going to spend my summer dreading over endless math shit I know I would never understand.

“There has to be another way! Please Mrs. Williams I can't waste my summer learning this sh--”

“I'll help her.”

I froze in my tracks and turned around, the voice seeming familiar. I took in a sharp breath. Austin Gold. Why the hell would he want to help me--without benefit?

“That's very kind of you to offer Mr. Gold. But I'm sure that Mia has better options.” I let out a small laugh and quickly concealed it. Austin helping me is better than taking summer school and listening to my parents nag about it. So I stupidly agreed.

“That's fine with me, I mean.” I felt myself turn red. Damnit. Austin smirked, showing off his perfectly chiseled jawline. He probably thought I was easy. That's probably why he offered to “help”.

“Are you sure Mia? We can talk to your parents and set you up with a quality tuto--”

“No it’s fine. I guess. Better than taking summer school.” I cut Mrs. Williams off and grabbed my paper.

“Alright, very well.” She sighs and takes her glasses off, wiping them with the hem of her crisp white shirt. “You guys can go work out in the hallway then.”

Austin gives a quick nod to his buds in the back of the classroom and follows me out. I wasn't innocent enough to believe that this wasn't a prank. He eyes me a little as I took a seat, my back leaning against the rows of lockers out in the hallway.

You will not believe what happened next.
