I've made a horrible mistake.
I've doomed the lives of both myself and the boy I have, unfortunately, fallen for. No over dramatic exaggeration, I've literally pissed off a couple God's and now they want my head, and Link's.
To explain how this happened though, I'll have to fill you in on a few details.
I'm a Reaper, a Grim Reaper. My name is Mae aged 17.
There have been many Death Reapers since time began, not just one as it is commonly thought in the human world.
Yes, I do mean the one you're probably thinking of: long black hooded cloak, scythe, skeleton arms and legs etc, the whole steriotypical works. I haven't been a Reaper for very long, only a couple months.
The Reaper cloak has been passed down to each new Reaper, hiding their face in a mask of shadow, concealing the arms of the Reaper, its human flesh, and replacing it with the illusion of bones to hide the skin tone and anything specific about the Reapers, stripping them of their human traits.
There is not only one Reaper at a time however, there are always three, as this is the bare minimum needed to allow all the souls on earth to pass to the Beyond.
Humans are the species favored to become Reapers, as they have a large enough soul to merge with the essence of death, a soul that is flexible enough to allow changes without corrupting it. This is why one of the most important rules of a Reaper is to never let their cloak leave their possession. No mortal human or creature from another world may wear the cloak.
Are you keeping up? Don't worry... I was pretty overwhelmed when I was told all this, too...
Impersonating a Reaper is punishable by death. It can cause utter chaos and tip the scales of each world which balances life and death, good and evil.
Sounds cliché I know, but it's the truth.
This lesson was, unfortunately, learnt the hard way in the year 1705 by the Reaper Lex, as he allowed a mortal, who was his friend before he died and gained the Reaper status, to wear his cloak. Disaster struck, the mortal realized the dark potential he possessed and caused a shocking amount of casualilties and deaths in both the human realm and various others.
No other Reaper since then has allowed a human or other worldly creature to wear the cloak, well not intentionally anyhow; there were a few incidents where it was forcefully taken from a Reaper, and obviously those individuals were swiftly amd mercilessly dealt with...
But apparently, I'm not the type to learn from others mistakes, the mistakes that caused thousands of deaths, the mistakes that were drilled into me whilst in my Reaper training, the mistake of letting a human wear the Reaper cloak.
But more about that later. It's best I start from the beginning, so you'll understand better. It's not that I'm a bad Reaper, infact I've been one of the best...not to brag.
I was only 17 when I "died". I put quotation marks because I know it wasn't an accident, my life was forceably taken from me.
Oh I know what you're thinking, murder right? In a sense it was, I suppose. But it was perfectly legal, according to the Reaper Rules. I'll tell you all about my death another time though, firstly I'll bring you up to speed with how exactly a law-abiding Reaper like myself came to break one of the most important laws of being a Reaper there is... and ended up loosing my un-beating heart to a mortal boy in the process...
