"mommy, when does daddy get home?" my four year old daughter, gracie, asked as she crawled into bed with me.
"i don't know, baby" i said as i hugged her petite body.
she snuggled up into my chest, hugging her stuffed bunny tightly. her light brown eyes fluttered shut as she yawned.
"mommy, can we watch paw patrol?" maria asked as she looked up at me.
"of course" i smiled.
i grabbed the remote and turned the tv on. i flipped through the channels until i reached nick jr..
"paw patrol! paw patrol!" gracie sang as she jumped on the bed.
i smiled at the sight of her being happy. as the theme song went off, i heard the front door open.
"i'm home!" i familiar voice yelled.
"daddy!" gracie screamed as she hopped off the bed.
she ran down the stairs towards the kitchen. i got out of the bed afterwards. i looked at my small baby bump in the mirror.
we haven't told gracie she's going to be a big sister yet. i walked down the stairs only to see hayes giving gracie kisses all over her face.
"hey, beautiful" he smiled once he saw me.
"hi" i smiled.
i sat on a stool at the island in the kitchen. hayes set gracie in the one next to me. he walked over to me and kissed my cheek.
"how was your day?" i asked as he sat down on the other side of the island.
"good" he smiled.
gosh that smile. it's one of the many reasons why i loved him as much as i do.
"what did y'all do today?" he asked.
"we went to the park with auntie skylynn and grandma" gracie explained.
"oh really? and what did you do at the park?"
"we played tag, we met a puppy named gizmo, auntie skylynn helped me do the monkey bars, we blew bubbles, and got snow balls"
"you got snow balls without me?" hayes pouted.
"sorry, daddy. maybe mommy will let us go back tomorrow, as you can come with us" gracie smiled.
"can we do that, mommy?" hayes joked.
"i'll think about it"
"well, gracie, you're birthday is coming up soon. do you have any ideas as of what you want?" hayes asked.
"um...a baby brother! or a puppy" she smiled.
i looked over at hayes. he nodded.
"gracie, mommy and daddy have a surprise for you" i said.
"what is it?"
"so you said you wanted a little brother right?" hayes asked and she nodded.
"what if mommy and daddy said they already got you that gift"
"what does that mean?"
"it means you're going to be a big sister!"
"really!"
"yep"
"is it a boy?"
"we don't know yet"
"can you make it a boy?"
"i don't know how to do that...but i could, i would"
"can we still get a puppy though?"
"sure"
