Chapter 3: Get ready, reveal!

As soon as Stacey goes through her door, I run straight through mine. I had to get ready. I couldn't go out like this!

I shot straight up the stairs and into my room. I ripped open my suitcase and pulled out a pair of skinny jeans.

Wait... I don't know what color these are... I need help.

"MOM!" I yell at the top of my lungs.

I wait for her panicked footsteps and she charges right through my door. Her curly hair bounced as she came to a halt and her petite body looked like it ran a marathon.

"I thought you were hurt! Don't shout like that!" She says.

She pauses catching her breath.

"So, what do you need, hon?" She asks.

"I need help choosing an outfit, I kinda made a friend and we were going to go for a walk..." I trailed off.

"My little girl already made a friend? Wow! What look were you going for?"

If you haven't guessed already, yes, I'm colorblind. Whoop de doo.

"Just a rugged chic. My usual."

"Okay, let me see..." She says.

I wait on my new plain white bed, staring at my mother as she searches through my now ruffled suitcase.

Finally, she holds up a shirt and a pair of pants. (No, I don't know what color they are, sorry!)

"HUZZAH! PRAISE FOR SPARTA!" She screeches.

"Yay... now can you tell me what it is? the outfit, I mean.." I say.

"It's a blue plaid button up with black ripped skinny jeans. You're usual, like you said." She states flatly.

"Thanks.. I hope I look good in this 'color blue plaid'". I say.

"You will." She says smiling.

My mom leaves my room as I put on my clothes, slipping into them as easily as you do jumping into water.

When I'm done, I take my bland hair and put it up into a hastily loose bun that's bobs to one side. 'I'm no ballerina, so why should my buns be?'

I slip on some black converse ( yes, I know what color these are because my mom told me. And she usually buys me only black stuff so I don't have to worry about colors and outfits and such...) and head down the large hallway then take a right to the straight stairs.

Once I'm down, I go straight to the living room on the left where my mom is unpacking a large couch. ' I feel like I'm forgetting something... what is it...? hmmm... OH!! My phone!'

"Hey mom?" I ask.

"Yeah?" She says, pausing her unboxing to look at me with her blue eyes.

"Sorry... have you seen my phone anywhere...?" I ask.

"Hmmm... no, I don't think I have."

"Oh."

"Well, don't fret darling. It'll turn up somewhere. Just go out, have fun, and be safe. Be sure to come back by dinner, okay?" She says

"Okay." I say.

I watch as she slowly turns back to our new couch, taking foam pellets out from the box and piling them on the carpet. Then, I turn and head towards the front door.

'This is a new day.' I tell myself.

'It's not your old life. You can be whoever you want to be now. Be ready. Have fun. Have an adventure.'

My hand slowly reaches for the door knob, and I feel it's coldness brush me as my hand holds it.

'Time for a new beginning.'

As I slowly turn the knob, I realize I'm not the color blind freak I used to be. I'm a new me. A good me. A gray me.
