"Maybe you're right, maybe this is all that I can be. But what if it's you? And it wasn't me?

What do you want from me?" ~ W.D.Y.W.F.M.? , The Neighbourhood

Dedicated to the Queen of Unique Romances, demonicblackcat. The Quirky Tale of April Hale was definitely a breathe of fresh air. I LOVED it so much. And Maid for Hire is one of my favs:)

I woke up with my knees furled into my chest and my back against the wall next to the door.

Sunlight filtered into the room from a set of large glass doors across from me. My head throbbed at the sight, my eyes burning from the inside out. I could hear my heart beat as if it were outside of my chest and pumping right next to my ear. Sweat curled down my forehead, trickling and trickling. I tried to stand, but my ears popping stopped my movement.

"Crap," I croaked, my voice hoarse. Clutching my head, I squeezed my eyes shut. My whole body felt like it was on fire.

The sun, I thought. The sun. It needs to go.

"Close." I whisked my hand towards the window, and the curtains obeyed.

The metal grating against metal didn't do much to help my headache, but the outcome was worth it. The room was swallowed in darkness, shielding me from the merciless sun. Since I couldn't stand up, I crawled to the platform where a queen sized bed sat, waiting for me. At the foot of the bed I forced power into my legs and catapulted. The air whooshed around me, and my ears popped in protest. I landed, sprawled along the soft duvet and the copious amount of pillows. The mattress seemed to bend and shift to the contours of my body, making the perfect sleeping space.

I could get used to this.

Cuddling into the soft sheets, I closed my eyes.

"Rise and shine, cupcake!" Logan yelled, causing my eyes to snap wide open.

He took long strides through the room and threw the curtains open. Sunlight poured through, spreading fast like water.

My head throbbed, my heart pumped louder, and my forehead trickled and trickled.

"No," I said. "Close."

The curtains slid shut.

"Aw, does little Sage have a hangover? Maybe you shouldn't have gotten so hammered last night," Logan cooed, tossing the curtains open again.

"As I recall," I whispered and glared, "you were hammering yourself right along with me."

He laughed, a loud fake guffaw. I groaned and buried my face into a pillow.

I asked, voice muffled, "What do you want?"

"We," he stated, taking steps toward my side, "have a dinner tonight. And you've been cooped up in here for half a day."

"Ugh, my head."

"If you'd just open your eyes you'd know I have something for that."

Slowly, I turned over, my eyes peeling open. For a moment, it felt like I was back in my father's throne room, dying, with Logan's angelic face hovering over mine. Only this time there was a warm bed underneath me other than the cold marble that lulled me to unconsciousness. This time Logan wasn't wearing a look of worry, something I might never see again, but instead a smirk. And this time I wanted to fall asleep.

"What do you have?" I asked, looking over him to see if he was holding anything.

Logan stood up straight, producing a glass filled to the brim with a pink, frothy liquid.
