"It's raining." Captain Parker muttered softly. The tone of annoyance was felt through the entire cargo cabin of the now wet UH-60. The entirety of the "Devil Dog" squad sat in silence, floating through a valley in the heart of the Zahedan mountain range of Afghanistan at 146 knots. The Devil Dogs were the second DSOC squad out of the three. They had named themselves so due to the fact that they had all been hand selected from Marine Special Operations Command as outstanding operators. A soft klink sounds as the bolt of Lt. Reid's H&K 416c hits the floor. "Butter fingers again Reid?" Lt. Black yells while laughing nervously. "There was a 22 percent chance of rain in this region tonight" Lt. Nolan spoke, responding to Captain Parker. "This is how lucky we are and ever have been." Lt. Cohen said as he slumped over in his seat. "At least we got hot chow tonight" Captain Parker said trying to maintain a positive vibe throughout his squad. "That was last night" Reid said as he quickly checked his watch, pressing the glow button so he could see it better. The green light reflected off his mildly concerned face and illuminated the entire floor of the cargo cabin as he looked up, "It's 1:20". "Were just about at the DZ by now" Parker said as he began to fasten his helmet. Clinks, zippers and other buckles could be heard in the darkness of the cabin as the team checked themselves one last time. The soft, monotone statement from the cockpit was heard through the com "five mikes to drop zone gentlemen, five mikes". The two crew members stood up in unison and attached the fast ropes to each side of the ceiling. "One mike to DZ, be ready in sixty" the same voice said from each of their headsets. Everyone glanced up at each other before lifting their masks over their mouths. The crew members shuffled over to assist the operators with the doors while they all flipped down their quad NVGs. The bolts clicked as the doors slid open at the same time. The raining had stopped, all Parker could smell was the all too familiar scent of wet asphalt drifting through the damp night air. The second the ropes hit the roof of the main compound, the first two jumpers grasped the rope and wrapped their legs around it. They slid down into the darkness of the threat unknown to them, into an operation that would never exist.
