I decided to update today just for the heck of it. Pretty sure the rest of you are tired of waiting so long. So, here's an extra chapter this week! 😁
Two Years Ago
This is the first time Dad went out in years. Usually Mom would pick up drinks for him, so I wondered what made him change his mind. We were walking together in silence until we reached Ichiraku's. He looked to me with a smile.
"Do you want something to eat?" He asked. I tried not to seem surprised. He never offers anything for me, so why is he doing it now?
"Yeah, do you mind?" I asked with a small smile. He shook his head, entering the ramen building.
"Oh, hello Satoh-san, been awhile since you've been here," Teuchi said, surprised himself. Then he looked at me. "Hayate-chan."
"Hello Teuchi-san," I greeted, giving him a big grin. He beamed right back at me.
"So, what can I do for you two today?" He asked.
"I'll have the usual," I told him. He nodded, looking over to Dad.
"Miso with extra pork," he gave his order. With a nod of his head, Teuchi started making our noodles.
"So, what's it like officially being a jounin?" My dad asked, putting his head on his hand.
"I just started last week, so I can't say for sure," I answered truthfully. "But I'm supposed to be going on a mission with Minato-kun and Kazuno-chan soon, so I might not be back for a while."
"Do you know where you're going?" He asked. I noticed Teuchi starting on the soup.
"Uhm, I believe Iwagakure," I replied. He was finally putting the noodles into bowls.
I hate having conversations with my dad, mainly because it's super awkward. We've never been really close, we rarely even talk, so I don't have a close relationship with him. Thankfully, he's been drinking less and trying to take care of the family more.
"Here's your food," Teuchi grinned, putting our bowls in front of us. Both of us grabbed chopsticks, breaking them apart.
"Time to eat!" We exclaimed together, digging into our food. I downed it in about three minutes while Dad was still eating his. He looked over to me with shock.
"That was fast," he exclaimed, slurping on a long noodle.
"I've had a lot of practice," I chuckled.
"Hey, can I have a small cup of sake?" My dad asked Teuchi. My eyes widened with fear and surprise. Whenever he drinks, even if it is just a little, he goes literally bonkers. He may not realize it, but everyone else does. Teuchi handed him a small glass of the alcoholic liquid, my dad downing it in merely two seconds.
Once he finished he, he paid for both of our meals. We exited the building, continuing to walk. I wanted to go home; I didn't want to face his scary, drunken self. I started headed towards the house, but he grabbed a hold of my arm.
"There's someplace I want us to go to first before we go home," he said, his words slurring a little. I hesitantly walked back to him, sauntering the streets by his side.
"So, where are we going?" I asked. He turned his head and smiled at me.
"It's a surprise."
After a few minutes of walking, he stopped at an empty alleyway. What was he going to do? My heart raced at the possibilities. Suddenly, he pushed me up against a wall, firmly pressing my wrists into the rough brick. My fearful gaze met his furious one.
