I woke up to the smell of breakfast. My first thoughts were that Alex never cooks. Then realization hit me. Last night. The compliments. The kissing. And what did I do? Didn't resist a single moment. Oh god, why am I feeling guilt? I knew I wasn't ready, but I did it anyways. Maybe I'm overreacting?
I looked around the room and Christian was nowhere to be found. I looked at my phone and thought for a moment. God, Alex is probably spamming me with messages. Clearing my throat, I picked it up. The time is 9:58 A.M., and I have seventeen new messages from Alex. I braced myself, and opened the messages. Each bubble text contained one singular word.
Aiden, What, Are, You, Doing, I, Need, Updates, I, Need, To, Know, If, My, Ship, Has, Sailed.
Instead of messaging her back, I decided to give her a call. I tapped on the call icon and before I could even put the phone to my ear, I could hear Alex excitedly saying hello.
"You got to tell me everything that happened," Alex demanded anxiously.
"Well," I began." I took a deep breath. "We kissed several times and-"
Next thing I knew, the raging fangirl screaming came. I should have braced myself and moved the phone away from my ear, but at this moment all my thoughts were scattered. I took a breathe and told her to calm down a second so I could finish.
"In the moment, it felt great, but now realizing what I've done, I don't know... Alex I feel guilty."
I didn't hear anything from Alex for a few seconds. "Well, I think you might be thinking about it a little too hard. He likes you Aiden, and he'll never hurt you like that bastard who's locked up. You deserve to be happy, don't stop Christian from giving you it."
She was right. Maybe it was time to finally move forward, it's not doing me anything good, and it isn't fair to Christian who has helped me so much. I thanked her, and we said our goodbyes. I got out of bed and stretched. I almost forgot I had Christian's shirt on.
I went downstairs where I saw Christian finish putting the scrambled eggs on the plates. He turned around, saw me and smiled.
"You're just in time for breakfast." He chuckled. "I was going to bring it up there to you, but since you're down here we can just eat in the living room. Could you get those two glasses of orange juice?"
"Yea definitely," I assured him, going to the counter.
I followed him into the living room where he sat our plates beside one another. I sat the glasses of juice next the plates and thanked him for breakfast. I took a bite of the pancakes and was completely astonished. These were probably the best pancakes I have ever had, and he added a nice ingredient in it.
"Mmm, chocolate chips?" I grinned, gently elbowing his arm.
"I know you love chocolate," he winked, making me blush. "Plus who would only settle for plain pancakes."
I nodded my head in agreement and finished eating. He took our plates into the kitchen and came back and asked if I would like to talk about last night. I hesitated for a moment, but then told him my thoughts.
"You made me feel something I haven't felt in a long time," I began. "And I'm so grateful for it... For the first time all my troubles felt as though they never even happened and you made me feel safe."
"I'm one lucky guy," he exclaimed, with a big smile on his face. "I know I might have taken it a bit too far last night, and for that I am sorry. I just couldn't resist it anymore Aiden. I want you feel like the world is at your fingertips."
A tear slid down my face. "No need to apologize, waking up I did have a sense of guilt for what I've done, but... it was a different type of guilt. I felt like I was overreacting because I still needed more time and in actuality I have had all the time that I needed. I've realized that I've been feeling guilty for practically distancing myself from you when all you've done was try to get closer. And for that I am sorry."
Christian was in awe. "I don't think any of us should be apologizing, we just needs to take things slower from here on out. I don't want to lose you for some idiotic mistakes."
"I agree sweet jerk."
"So is this sweet jerk is now your boyfriend?"
I put on a worrying look on my face that gave him such a fright. I couldn't hold it for much longer and started to burst out laughing.
"You're face!" I couldn't stop laughing.
"Haha very funny," he admitted.
"Of course it does, Christian. Who in the world would say no?"
*****
Recap of the day, we sat around and watched Netflix. Later, he took us out for dinner at a local seafood joint. It was absolutely delicious. Then I stayed at his place for a couple of more hours. It was hard to say but I finally told him that it was time for me to go, it was unintentional to stay at his house for this long to begin with since I never bought spare clothes. I assured him next time I'll do so that way I could stay with him for a longer period of time. He finally gave in and took me home. Of course there was class where we would see each other, but we planned our next date Wednesday since classes are out. I have him a kiss, and said our goodbyes.I walked up to the house, grabbed my keys but noticed there was an envelope on the floor. I thought it was pretty weird, but I picked up it up anyways and unlocked the door. Alex said she was home a couple of hours before I came. I called her name.
"Aiden you're back!" Alex came rushing down the stairs in excitement. "I'm so glad you had a great time at Christian's."
I was preoccupied by the envelope in my hand, I stared at it for a few moments and asked her did she see this when she came home.
"No, there wasn't even a knock on the door," she explained. "And you know I hear everything."
"Hmm," I thought for a moment. "That's pretty strange, should I open it?"
"I mean the worst thing an envelope could do is give you a paper cut," she joked.
I agreed, and opened the envelope. May I mind you I'm terrible at doing so? Finally after a few moments of demolishing the envelope I took out the paper that was inside.
Dear Aiden,
Watch your back, cause I'm coming for you very soon.
I read it aloud, and was in disbelief of what I was reading. Who was sending me threat letters? And why? Alex was at a lost of words too. Of course something like this would have to pop up when my life is finally coming back alive. It couldn't be Dylan... could it? No, he's still in jail. Maybe it's just a sick joke one of the college students wanted to pull? If so then this wasn't the time do so.
"What are we gonna do?" Alex asked, a hint of fear was in her eyes.
I couldn't give her an answer. I was just as lost as her on this one. If whoever wrote was this was completely serious, then I'm in a whole bunch of trouble.
