After driving for about five minutes we uttered the first words spoken since the kiss.
"Do you think he's following us?" She asked. You could hear how terrified she was in her voice.
I looked through the rear mirror, there were no cars around us. Thank the Lord. "No he isn't! i say calmly and I can see the calmness start on her face. I drive into my garage realising I shouldn't send her home seeing as he knows where she lives. I open my door and she just sits on my sofa, sprawled all over it, just like old times. I go into the kitchen and make us both hot cocoa with marshmallows. It was our favourites.
"Yumm" she states as she takes the first sip of hers. She now has a smile on her face and she looks ridiculously childish.
I can still remember the day we planted that oak tree. She had her blonde hair in pony tails and her little fringe perfect, she was wearing a green t-shirt and dark dungarees. There's a photo of us in my sitting room. She's in her dungarees and her brand new shoes, that were crisp white when she came to my house but were covered with mud when she left. In the photo we're both covered in mud and grass stains. We have those dopey kiddy smiles that would look fake if in any other situaion. We have what look like oversized shovels in our hands, leaning against the tree a glass of fresh lemonade in our hands. Everyone always says we would make the perfect couple. I never agreed with them to there faces but deep down I always wanted her. This picture was my favourite, it was my wallpaper on my computer and phone.
We talked for a while and watched some T.V. Then suddenly a tornado warning is issued for our area. And the news comes on alerting us that there has already been three in Nebraska alone. Suddenly Faria leans in aghainst me and kisses me again, not like the one in the car, not a passionate kiss, but a sweet kiss given by someone filled with fear, someone who was always terrified by tornadoes and couldn't wait to move away fromm here. We quickly went down to my basement after we grab some snacks, flashl.ights, radio, batteries. All the equipment that seeing as it was suspected that this would be a tornado storm we would probably need. We ran down the stairs and switched on the T.V in the basement, another tornado is after striking through a street in West Brom Hill. Then we could hear the window picking up. They were showing live videos of the tornadoes in Nebraska and all the surrounding states. Quickly she clutched onto me and I lookd at the screen. There was a tornado heading down our street right this minute. I hold onto her and kissed her on her head. If you've ever been in a tornado you will know the feeling that anything can go wrong. A building can just collapse, if anything goes wrong theres no emergency services to arrive immediately, sure they get hear as fast as they can but not always quick enough. It was scary as we hear trees ripping out of the ground, pieces of wood and bricks twirling around. Unfortunately our T.V was still on and we could see the devastion. Houses werre ripped apart, basements gone as well. I think of how lucky we are. Suddenly the phone vibrates, making us both jump.
"It's ok it's just my phone" I say calmingly. I look at caller I.D and it's my mom. "hey mom"
"hey Zach. Glad to hear your O.k."
"Yes mom, me and Faria where in the basement thank God"
"Your with Faria?" My mom sounded shocked.
"Yes mom, I am. I gotta go, bye" and I hung up. "You alright Faria?"
"Yes, I'm fine." That's when we hear the sirens, the birds chirping. We climb up the stairs and open the door. With a few bangs an emergency worker opens it for us. He helps us up, Faria first then me and we go over to the ambulance. They give us a cup of hot cocoa, just like we had before this mess had started, and a blanket for us to share. We got into a bus and before we drove off I seen a man picking up the photo frame of me and Faria in tact, perfect as before. We are driven to the church after collecting a family consisting of a mother daughter and two year old little boy screaming. We walk into the church and someones arms fling around me and Faria. It's my mom.
"Thank God you guys are ok. When I seen all the basements ripped out of the homes I was so scared, but you guys are ok." she then kissed our foreheads like we were those little kids back in that photo. Then I get a tap on my shoulder. It was the rescue worker who helped us out. He handed me my photo. It was still perfect. Faria looked over my shoulder at it and I could feel her smiling. I turned around and we kissed. In front of everyone. All we could hear were "Awws" when we pulled away. This made Faria blush. She looked so cute. This day was just, mind blowing. I found out all that survived had been that picture and anything in the basement. It was surprising but I was so thankful. There had been a shortage of sleeping bags so me and Faria slept in one together. That night we had the most amazing conversation.
"You still awake?" she asks.
"Yeah, I can't sleep."
"Same."
"Faria can I ask you something"
"Sure. What is it?"
"Faria, will you go out with me?" And that's when we heard the scream...
