Betty's POV: I was so happy when Jughead accepted. So, at lunchtime, me and Jughead both went to Veronica and Archie. Lately, we've had to eat inside because of the non-stop rain. Sometimes, when it used to rain, Archie, Jughead and I would always sneak outside and sit under our favorite tree. It was a Willow tree, and we wouldn't let anyone else sit by it. When we walked in the lunch room, we saw Veronica and Archie sitting by each other talking. When Veronica saw me walking up with a boy, she wiggled her eyebrows at me. Clearly, she didn't know who he is. Archie saw us and his face turned pale, full of regret.
Me and Jughead took a seat, and automatically started talking before anyone could dart ahead of us. "Archie, I know what you may be thinking, but, Jughead's willing to make up if you tell us where you were July 4th weekend." I said. Archie looked at us in an unbelievable way. "Haven't you guys heard? The autopsy just revealed that Jason died a week later." Veronica added in. Me and Jughead shared a glance. "Jughead, do you really think I'd kill Jason Blossom?" Asked Archie. "Now I definitely don't." Said Jughead. Archie rolled his eyes. "Wait, hold up, your name is Jughead?" Asked Veronica. "Yes. Nickname." Said Jughead. "Never thought I'd hear that one!" Veronica said. "Archie, even if you didn't have anything to do with Jason's death, where were you?" Archie looked nervous. He grew a pale face again, but this time, even whiter. "Fine. I was at Sweetwater River on July 4th. But, as you know I was together with Ms. Grundy...I was with her." Said Archie. "Wait! What?" Asked Veronica. "I'm not finished. We heard a gunshot. Clearly not the gunshot, now. But.. who knows? Ms. Grundy told me not to tell anyone. So, please don't." Said Archie. "Wait, Cheryl said she heard that gunshot, too. But it wasn't the one that killed her twin." Said Veronica. "Hopefully we can figure it out sooner or later." I added. "Yeah. And...I'm sorry Archie." Said Jughead. "It's fine. I should be the one apologizing for ditching you for a teacher." Said Archie. We all laughed, several times. And now, what I missed, we had back.
After school, conveniently, the rain still hadn't stopped. I had my grey jacket, but no hood. My hair would be wet, but that's ok.
Jughead's POV: I had offered to walk home with Betty, since she was on the way. We looked for Archie, but he was no where to be found. The rain wasn't too bad, but it was falling. I knew that the new scent of rain would add an even stronger scent of rain to Betty's hair, taking over most of the coconut smell. The rain was on her face, but the little makeup she was wearing was still perfect. Her hair was wet, but you could still see the formed curls. When I looked down, I noticed that she had bandages on her hands. I didn't want to pry, but I had to make sure she was ok. "Betty, why're there bandages on your hands?" I asked. She looked at me, and in her eyes I saw a cry for help, but she looked away. "I fell...and scraped my palms. It's really nothing." I looked at them, and I saw faded blood, that looked like the pink of her lips. "I hope it gets better soon." I added. She looked at me and smiled, and then I wondered why Archie rejected her. What was so wrong about her? What's not to like about her? What's wrong with Archie? "Thanks for trying to get me and Archie's relationship back on a good note." I said. She deserved a thank you. "It's my pleasure. I know two friends shouldn't give up on one another for a stupid reason like that." She replied. "When I found you the other day, you were crying. What about?" I asked. When I picked her up, I looked at her face, and she had dried tears running down her red cheeks. They were sticky, like a child's hands after eating ice-cream.
"I guess I just get really emotional during all of the drama the world brings us." She said. "Sometimes it makes me do crazy things, and I worry. I worry about me, my family. Friends, even." I'd never even think for one second that Betty would be worried. She always seems so capable... so positive. I guess inside, everyone has their worries.
We stopped at the gate entrance to her house.
"Well, once again, thanks, Betty." I said. "No, thank you, Jug. For making a few things better for Riverdale on this very day." She said while smiling. "Bye, Betty." "Goodbye, Juggie." When I started to walk away, I watched her enter her house. When her door shut, another miracle happened.
The suns last ray shone again, high above the clouds. With one spec, it lasted for an un-forgetful second. The last ray will find its pieces. I will find my pieces, along with the wonders yet to come to this town. And this was just the beginning.
