Betty's POV: When we both pulled back, we stared at each other for another few seconds. We both stood up, and started walking through the trees. The sky was so dark, that we could barely see each other. "Do you know the way back?" I asked him. "Of course I do. My dads a Serpent." He said. "Well, which way is it?" I asked. He had to think for a few moments, but, he eventually went left. "Just so you know, Archie can't be mad at you forever." I said calmly. "You two go back for a while, Jughead." I added. "Yeah, well, it's not only us two that go back a while." He said.
"We're almost to the exit area." Said Jughead. "Im surprised you even found the tree." He said. "Yeah, well there's a lot you don't know about me." I said jokingly. He laughed, and we reached the exit of the Drive-In. "I'm actually kind of thankful your dad's a Serpent, now." I said. "Hey, Betty?" Asked Jughead. "Yeah?" I asked. "You didn't have to kiss me back there. I don't really want pity." He whispered softly. "I'm not pitying you, Jughead." I said. "I don't know what it was for, but you didn't have to do it." He said. "Jughead. Are you really that blind?" I joked. "Apparently I am." He said getting a little mad. "I said, I don't pity you." I repeated. We both stopped walking. "Do you still not get it?" He asked me. "What, Jughead?" I asked. "I will never be good enough. For anyone. I know you did that so I wouldn't feel bad about myself." He said. "No. That isn't true." I said. "Yes it is. And you still like Archie. It's written all over your face." He said. My eyes started to burn after hearing that, and he was getting mad. "See? I was right. All of it." He said while switching arms for his bag. "Goodbye, Betty." He said. He started running down the sidewalk before I could do anything. Again, I did something stupid.
All of a sudden, something struck inside of me. It was like anger just took over my whole body, and I couldn't stop myself. I started running towards Pop's, seeing Veronica and Archie sitting at our booth. I pushed the door open as hard as I could, and stomped over to the new couple. When I reached their table, they both looked up at me. I imagine I looked bad, because of what I had just went through. There were leaves all over my clothes, my hair had fallen out of its bun, and I was freezing cold. There was even some mud across my face.
"Archie, I can't believe you!" I said with my voice filled with hate. "You can't just come in here and do that to Jughead. It's not his fault that his dads a Serpent. He can't do anything about it!" I started to raise my voice. "Betty, sit down and we'll talk about it." Said Veronica. "No! I'm done talking. I'm done with both of you, also." I said. I stared at Archie one more time, and walked out of Pop's.
When I walked out of Pop's, I tried to dig my nails into my skin. Again, it wouldn't work. I started walking towards my house, each step I take getting slower than the last one. I had no idea where Jughead was going to go, but it was his choice. And I can't run after him forever.
Jughead's POV: I didn't know where to go. The only place I could think of, was my dad's trailer. I would stay there tonight, and find another place by tomorrow. When I was about to go through the entrance to Pop's to get something before I go, I saw Betty storm into the diner. She went up to Veronica and Archie, and started yelling at them. I hid by the window, and heard what she was saying. She was defending me, something no one had ever done. She'd given up her friendships with them, for mine. And I left her standing alone in the rain. All alone, just like me.
Betty's POV: When I'd arrived at my house, I went straight to my room. I put my hair up into a ponytail, with my hair still being completely wet. My cheeks were red, probably from the coldness. I changed out of my pink pajamas, into blue ones just like it. My mom had every color in the same pair of pajamas for me. When I was done, I turned to walk over to my bed. But, something stood out. My window was opened, with raindrops hitting the entrance to my room. My curtains were blowing wildly, and there was small rain puddles leading to the other side of my vanity. I followed them, and it lead to something beautiful, lying on my vanity. It was a rose, with raindrops dripping down every cherry red petal. I picked it up, and it smelled like fresh rain. I pricked my finger on one of the thorns, and a tiny drop of blood dropped on a note attached to the bottom of the stem. I unfolded it, and it said, "I'm sorry."
I knew who it was from, because no one else would give me a rose like this one. "Forgive me?" I heard from behind me. I turned around slowly, with the rose still in my hand. Standing there, was Jughead. I slowly walked up to him, with tears in both of our eyes. "Of course." I whispered. We stared at each other for forever, and it was only us and the rain coming in through my window. His cheeks were starting to get red, too. I stepped forward, and he looked at the rose. He saw the little drop of blood, and took my finger. "You gave them both up, for me." He whispered. "I know". I lightly smiled. A tear streamed down his face, and before it reached the ground, I kissed him. The rose slowly dropped to the ground, causing one of the pedals to fly off.
This was the beginning.
