The next day came round quick but the same question plagued my mind, what had happened? There were so many questions that came off of that, I didn't understand, how could I talk to grandma when she was dead as if it was currently happening? What was that tiger that was in my eyes? What am I?!
I spent the day walking round trying to make what had happened clear in my mind, it can't have been real, can it? I kept telling myself that it was impossible, that my mind was playing tricks on me because I was upset from the loss of my grandma, but, no matter how much I told myself this, I knew it wasn't true. Something happened last night, and it happened for a reason. There is something that I have to do, something that only I can do. But what?
I needed more time, I needed to talk to grandma again but no mater how often I slept she just didn't reappear. Days and nights passed and still no word, I was beginning to wonder if she'd got it wrong, wondering if it was my mum that it had gone on to. But the more I thought about it the more I knew I was just kidding myself, I had seen that tiger, grandma definitely sounded as if she was telling the truth. Besides, why would she lie about something like this?!
There was something different about me, always had been and I could feel it now more than ever. There was something inside me trying to escape, I knew it had to but I need to control it. There had to be a clue somewhere.
*****
I was pacing in my room, as I had done for the past week since I first read that letter, trying to decipher it's meaning. I was going to have to search Grandmas house if I couldn't come up with something soon. I begged for her to come back, to tell me more. What if she intended for me to check her house, I was running out of time soon...
"Holly!" called mum, interrupting my thoughts.
"Yes?"
"Can you come downstairs a minute me and your dad would like to talk to you!"
My heart raced. Did they know? Was this it? What I had been waiting for, were they about to reveal the information Grandma had left out? I didn't hesitate, with the slight possibility they knew everything I ran down the stairs quietly and quickly and came to a stop before the living room door. I caught my breath and entered the room calmly, so they didn't suspect anything.
"What do you want?" I asked, not wanting to sound to hasty to figure out the answer.
"Me and your dad were thinking, it's about time we went over to grandmas and sorted through her stuff."
My heart dropped, so they really didn't know anything. Grandma honestly wants me to figure it out for myself. A look of worry must of appeared on my face because my dad continued to say,
"It's been almost two weeks, we cant put it off forever honey, surely you understand that?"
I managed to control my thoughts and concentrate on the present predicament. They were right after all, we did need to sort through her things. I let out a sudden, involuntary gasp which caused looks of confusion from my parents. They were going to clear out her house! I quickly recovered and hid what I had just thought.
"Okay, I understand, when are you planning on going?"
"We were thinking tomorrow afternoon, about 1 o'clock."
"Alright, I want to come too though, is that all?" I was in a hurry now, I didn't have much time, it was already 6pm.
"Yes, you can go if you want." And with that, I ran back upstairs, and changed into some warm, black clothes, grabbed a torch and sat on my bed, waiting for the sun to fall.
****
It was now 11pm, my parents had gone to bed and were sound asleep, I crept downstairs and grabbed the keys of the counter and went to the front door. Slowly, I opened the door and left the house. I was ready, no one would be able to see me unless I turned on the torch by accident so I placed it in my coat pocket for later. In the garage I found my bike, I needed some form of transport and the car was far too loud and would attract to much attention.
After about twenty minutes of cycling I finally arrived, I dismounted my bike, lent it against the little brick wall I always used to walk along as a child, and turned to face the house, the house that may hold all the answers.
