(2 days later)

It was the morning of my audition. I didn't have to be there for several more hours, but I was already a nervous wreck. What if I fuck this up somehow?

"Will you stop pacing back and forth? You're making me lose focus on this study guide!" Cynthia exclaimed. "I don't think I can do this. I can't do this. Tell them to give my spot away." I said. Cynthia stood up and shook me, hard. "Cut the shit, Sabrina. From what you tell me, you've waited for an opportunity like this to come you're whole fuckin' life. Don't quit on yourself now. Man the fuck up! You are better than that!" I just thought for a moment. I wonder how many people have a friend like Cynthia in their life who pushes you to do what you want to but think you can't do.

I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "I can do this." I said. "I know you can." Cynthia replied. "Now come watch Shameless with me." I laughed and sat down next to her.

Later, my alarm went off telling me it was time to start heading to the theatre. "Well, I'm off." I said. Cynthia gave me a hug. "I'm proud of you. You got this. Knock em dead, bitch." I laughed. "I will." I said. "I know." She said. "You gonna be okay here by yourself?" I asked. "Bitch, just go." I laughed. "See ya, Cyn." I said. "Bye, loser." I headed out the door and to my car.

The drive was quick and soon I was in the theatre waiting to get my contestant number. Soon, there was only one person in front of me, and he was about to head inside the auditorium. I got to the front of the line and looked up and my heart dropped. I looked up and could not believe my eyes.

Machine Gun Kelly was in front of me. His blue eyes matched the baby blue shirt I had on. His sleeve tattoos were probably the sexiest thing I ever seen.

He cleared his throat, breaking me from my trance. "Umm, hello? Name?" He asked, politely. I shook my head. "Oh, sorry...uh, Sabrina Maplewood." He shuffled papers around until he found what he was looking for. He handed me a sticker. "Contestant 302. Row 9 from the right, 3rd seat up." I nodded. "Thanks." I said, grabbing the sticker. Our hands touched. "You're welcome. Good luck." He replied. I wish I never had to wash this hand again, I thought as I made my way to my seat.

There were about 20 performances before mine, so I got comfortable in my seat. Conner sat beside me. "You nervous?" I nodded. "Well don't be, you got this in the bag." I faked a smile. "Thanks, you've got this too." He smiled back at me. I listened to music until they called my number.

"Contestant 302?" A guy said. I made my way down the stairs and to the stage. I looked at all the people, and then at MGK, who was sitting with the rest of the judges in front of me. The announcer handed me a mic and my guitar that they got from me earlier.

"Tell us about yourself." MGK said. "I'm 22. I'm from Texas but I moved here to go to Ohio State for a degree in music, actually. My mom is the only active parent in my life, but she still lives in Texas with my little brother. I am thrilled to be here." MGK smiled at me. "Great, and what are you showing us today?" He said. "I'll be singing When I'm Gone by Avril Lavigne." I said. "Okay." MGK said. The lights dimmed. I took a deep breath. Some guy on a piano played across the stage. I started strumming the guitar. I took one final breath as the part where I'm supposed to sing grew near. I started to sing.

I sang with my eyes closed for a minute before I looked out at the crowd. Conner and his band swayed their arms back and forth above their head. The whole crowd slowly started to join. I smiled and continued to sing.

At the end, the crowd cheered. I smiled. The announcer walked up to me. "So how was it? How do you think you did?" He asked. "Nerve-wrecking, but I did the best I could so I think I did pretty well." I looked at MGK. He smiled.

"Well let's see what the judges think." The announcer continued. 2 judges went before MGK. Then it was his turn.

"I think you have a fantastic voice and you seem really bubbly and energetic and it seems like you gave that off to your audience. That's one of the best qualities a motherf-" The announcer raised his eyebrow at MGK. MGK cleared his throat. "Uh, excuse me, a person can have." I smiled.

"Alright, have you all reached a verdict?" The announcer asked. The judges talked for a moment. "Yeah, you're coming to the second round." MGK said. My heart dropped. "Oh my God! Thank you guys so much!" I said. I handed the mic to the announcer and exited backstage. I waited in the theatre lobby for Conner.
There was a TV Cam displaying Conner's performance. He and his band were doing a cover of Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We're Going Down. I thought they did great. Apparently, the judges did too because they made it to the second round also.

After his audition he ran out and picked me up, giving me a tight hug. "Put me down, asshole." He laughed. "You did great." He said. "Thanks. So did you." He smiled. "Thanks." He said. "We fly to New York in 2 weeks." He said. "Yep." I said. I love to fly. Conner hates it. "I'll bet your excited just to fly." I laughed. "You know me so well." He laughed. Suddenly, MGK walked past us with his phone pressed to his ear. I held my breath and watched him walk away.

Conner looked at me. "Well, hey. I'm gonna get back to the ol' dorm." I smiled. "See ya." I said. I went to the bathroom before walking out of the building. As I walked out of the building, a girl tapped me on the shoulder. I jumped.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you." She said. "I'm Ellie, another contestant. You were amazing." I smiled. "Thanks." I said. "Not a problem. Anyways, I think that that Machine Gun Kelly guy might have the hots for you." I laughed. "What are you talking about?" She smiled. "You were the only person, at least so far, that he actually said anything to besides you're in or you're out." I laughed but let it go. "Well, I think your crazy. It was very nice to meet you though." I said.

I made my way out of the bathroom and was on my way to my car when I felt a body run into mine. I was about to get angry when a familiar voice spoke. "Oh, fuck. Sorry." I looked up. Machine Gun Kelly. "Oh, it's okay." He smiled and shook my hand. "Uh, Sabrina right?" I nodded. "Yeah." I said. "Machine Gun Kelly, right?" I asked. He smiled. "Nah, today I am Young Gunner." I laughed. "My, what beautiful name you have." He laughed too. "So, I see you have a Lace Up tattoo?" He said, looking at my arm. I showed him my other arm."I also have this EST19XX tattoo." He smiled. "I got both on my 19th birthday. Two weeks after I purposely overdosed on prescription meds and woke up to my roommate yelling at me and crying and your music still playing in my headphones." He just stared at me. "Glad my music was there for you that night." He said. "Agreed." I said. "Well, I should get going. See you in NYC in a couple weeks." I smiled. "See ya."

Cynthia was still in class when I got back. I decided to put a pizza in the oven. I watched TV for awhile.

A little bit later, Cynthia walked in the door. "So, how did it go?" She asked as she kicked off her shoes, plopped down on the couch, and helped herself to a slice of pizza.

"It went." I replied. "Don't bullshit me. Did you get in or not?" She asked. I paused for a moment. "I mean, I fly to NYC in two weeks if that tells you anything." Cynthia smiled and gave me a hug. "See? I knew you could do it!" I smiled. "Yeah, thanks. You could have told me that MGK would be there, though." I said. "and where's the fun in that?" Cynthia smirked.
