(A day before leaving for NYC)
I was getting my things ready for NYC. Cynthia was in class. I let Mr. Renshaw know that I was in the contest and he told me he'd email me all my missing assignments while I was away. Conner insisted we'd ride to the airport together.
I watched TV until Cynthia got home. *When's your flight to New York City?* This was Kells texting me. *Tomorrow at 8 AM. I'm riding to the airport with my friend Conner.* I replied. *I was hoping you'd ride with me...* Kells replied. *Well, Conner wants me to ride with him and I already said I would. Maybe I can ride back with you though?* Ding. *Fine. See you tomorrow.* I smiled. *See you tomorrow*
Just then, Cynthia walked through the door. I zipped up my bag. "Preparing for NYC?" She asked. "Yep." I said. "Nervous?" She asked. "Yeah." I admitted. "You'll be okay." She said. I nodded. "I hope so." I said. "You will." She said. She sat next to me and we watched another episode of Shameless.
I woke up to Cynthia tossing and turning on the couch. I looked at the clock on my phone. 6:25 AM. I put on some shoes and took my bags to the car.
Cynthia was up when I got back inside. "You leave at 8, don't you?" She asked. "Yeah, just getting everything ready." Cynthia put a blunt to her lips. "Your phone went off when you were out there. Kells wants to know if you wanna go to breakfast with him before you leave." I blushed. "Okay, thanks for invading my privacy." She smiled. "You're welcome. But there's something I want you to know." I nodded. "Falling in love with a guy like him is dangerous. He'll make you believe he's in love with you and wants to marry you and make a family in a house on a hill with a white Pickett fence, but it won't work out that way. Something will get in the way, and I will be there when it does." I nodded. You know nothing about him, and who said I'd fall in love with him anyway, I thought. "Thanks." I said.
I went out to my car. *Where do you want to meet up at?* I texted. *Go to the house we were at yesterday.* He gave me the directions. I drove to the house.
He was sitting on the porch swing, blunt in hand. The sun made his hair white. "Morning." He said. "Morning." I replied. He patted the spot next to him. He blew out smoke. I sat. "So, how'd you sleep?" I laughed. "Like shit." He laughed. "Me too." I smiled. He took one last puff and put out the blunt. "Ready to go eat?" I nodded. He took my hand and led me to his car. "Today, we aren't driving your piece of shit." He said. "We're driving in a Benz." I smiled. "Okay." We got in his car.
He took me to IHOP. I had strawberry cheesecake pancakes. He had chocolate chip.
"Are you sure you don't wanna ride to the airport with me? I'm a lot more fun than Mr. Wanna-be-Fall-Out-Bitch." I just took another bite of my pancake. "Please watch what you say about my friend." I said. "He's went through a ton of shit in his life and you don't even know him." Kells grabbed my hand. "Okay, I'm sorry." I pulled my hand away gently and got up. He went to go pay the bill. I told him I'd pay him back when he got back from New York. He drove me back to his house so I could get my car.
