creepy original fairytales:

1) sleeping beauty; giambattista basile

this story was one of my favorites growing up — and it's still one of my favorite disney movies. but after reading the original story and seeing what it's all about, i'm shook.

the king who finds sleeping beauty actually r a p e s her. yes, he rapes her which indeed impregnates her. she later gives birth (while asleep) and the only reason she wakes up is because one of the children sucks out a splinter from her finger that was keeping her asleep.

and it doesn't stop there. the king later kills his wife — who tried to get him to eat his own children he had with sleeping beauty — so that he could be with sleeping beauty.

talk about a way to mess up your childhood.

2) beauty and the beast; jeanne-marie beaumont

this one isn't really dark but rather, interesting? quite frankly i find this one funny.

it starts off with belle's father finding the luxurious castle and plucking a single rose for his daughter. and then the angry beast emerges and takes the man hostage after he consumed food and beverages and took the rose as well. the beast, though, allows him to leave as long as he returns.

belle gets the story out of her father and returns to the castle herself. she takes her fathers place and lives with the beast instead. over the course of time, the beast continuously asks belle to marry time and each time she says no and dismisses him. she then finds him nearly dead from heartbreak. her tears that fall on his body turn him into a prince.

3) cinderella; grimm brothers

this one is dark though. just bare with me.

so cinderella's oldest sister, in attempt to fit into the glass slipper and with her mother's orders, cuts off her toes. and the other sister, cuts off her heel. but both were still unsuccessful. the doves who were sent by cinderella's dead mother alert the prince of the blood in the sisters' shoes.

eventually, it's revealed the slipper belongs to cinderella. and to add on to the fact that the two sisters cut off parts of their feet, during her wedding to the prince the doves return and poke the oldest sisters eyes out. which then gets sent to her stepmother in a jar.

4) rumpelstiltskin; grimm brothers

yet another one of the grimm brother's made this list. as you can tell they have very dark stories.

a miller, who's very poor, goes to a king and says that his daughter can weave straw into gold (and she most certainly cannot) and the king believes the miller and puts her to it. if she does not succeed, he will kill her by morning. a small man appears and makes a deal with the girl; he'll weave the straw into gold for her if she gives him her firstborn child. when the child is born, she is forced to give it up to the man.

the man promises to allow the girl to keep her child if she can figure out his name. the girl snoops around his house and hears him singing a rhyme which his name — rumpelstiltskin — is included in. the next day the girl tells him his true name. outraged, rumpelstiltskin stomps his right foot into the group, grabs his left and tears himself into two.

5) snow white; grimm brothers

and once again, a grimm brothers tale.

in his version of snow white many things are different. the queen orders the huntsman to take snow white into the woods and take out her lungs and liver for her to e a t. yea, to eat. later in the story when snow white and the prince are getting married, they invite all royalty.

the evil queen shows up, not knowing the wedding was meant for her stepdaughter, and is forced to step into hot iron shoes brought from the fireplace. she is then instructed to "dance until she dies".

hey guys. i was reading up on these just for fun and thought I'd include it as a chapter. these are so dark just imagine these as children's movies oh my god.
