"Hey boo, thanks for waiting." I kissed Mel on the cheek before fastening my passenger's seat seatbelt.

"You know it's never a problem. What're we doing today?" She replied, pulling out of the hospital parking lot.

"Hmmm, I'm kinda hungry right now . Wanna go eat?"

"Yeaaa. There's a diner not too far from here."

I simply nodded, turning the radio on. A Nav song was playing on power 105.

"I love this song." Mel states, before rapping along to the outro.

Drivin' solo, I'm just swervin' through my ends
When I'm sober I just don't like who I am
Pour me up a four and I'll feel like myself again
Roll me up some dope and I'll feel like myself again

"I fucks with it." I agreed, after it went off. The DJ was talking about god knows what , so I started station surfing until I found a station that was playing music. I rapped along..

I'm so high up I'm like,
How is niggas really gettin' down
I could never have a kid,
then be out here still kiddin' round
Boys playin' around,
where you really wanna take it now?
I got a 150, 000 dollars for an afterparty
And I gave it to the killas just to break it down
Bring us up, I never take us down
But if you bring me up,
then they might take you down
Fake fucked with me back then
But it's gettin' hard for you to fake it now
Fuck bein' rich when I'm forty,
man, I'm tryna make it now

"Mm, you sure know that part like the back of your hand." Mel snickered.

This bitch.

"I know the next verse." I said defensively, disregarding her previous comment.

"Is that so?" She asked, I nodded. "So I'm guessing you know Scotty Boy's part too right?" She asked, glancing over at me before pulling into the diner drive way.

I stayed silent. I just learned the lyrics to this song yesterday and I didn't really care know Jac's part, but she didn't know that.

"Loooook, I just learned the shit yesterday." I turned off the car radio and undid my seat belt, exiting the car. Mel just chuckled and shook her head. "Let's goooo." I laughed too, rolling my eyes.

We were settled inside a booth at the diner, patiently waiting for someone to take our order. There was silence between Mel and I, it was neither awkward nor comfortable. It was just silence, silence that Mel then decided to break.

"So what happened at the hospital? Are you guys like back together or whatever?" Mel asked, sipping on complimentary iced water.

I gently scratched above my eyebrow, preparing to answer. I wasn't sure how to explain to her that we were actually the exact opposite. Although it seemed like she was rooting for Aubrey and I, it was still weird to confess that Jac and I was no longer a thing.

"Well, not exactly..." I started, taking a deep breath.

"Hmm?" Mel stopped drinking from her glass, and gave me her full attention. "What you mean not exactly?"

"Yesterday, I went out with Aubrey and he explained everything that happened between him and Jac." My mind traveled back to last night's dinner with Aubrey.

"Nice place isn't it?" He tried to break the ice, his gold bezel shining in the dim overhead light.

"Mhm." I hummed, looking through the menu. "What'd you say happened exactly between Jac and yourself ?" I asked, before glancing up at him from across the table.

"Well, we didn't actually get there yet but,"

I interrupted him.. "Yea, that was your cue to get to it." I said, closing the menu altogether.

"Wow, straight to the point huh?"

"Yup." I was growing impatient with ol' boy, it seemed like he was purposely pushing off answering my question. It shouldn't be this hard for him. After a few deep breaths, and dragging his hands down his face, he finally got to speaking.

"Last year, around this time actually, I had a girlfriend. I was in love with the girl. We had been together for about four years, and I was pretty much ready to marry her."

"Okay, so where does Jac come into this?" I asked. Ready for him to get to the good part.

"Well , Jacques Webster was my best bro. He knew how I felt about ol girl, but went behind my back and encouraged her to cheat on me. With him."

"Really?" I asked, suddenly feeling bad.

"Yeaaa.. that's why I don't really care for him."

"Aw Jac," I cooed before realizing my mistake. "Shit I mean Aubrey. I'm so sorry, I have a lot on my mind right now. Aubrey."

"No, it's okay. It's fine." He chuckled.

"Good. I'm so sorry he did that to you."

I brought myself back to the now, reality. "I have a deep regard for Jac, but I can't be with someone who could do that."
