Science Fair

Seriously.  No one cares about science fair.  Why waste the valuable time of students who probably have a million better things to do.  I mean, I just finished my science fair project and it took THREE MONTHS!!!!! I can think of a ton of better things I could have done.  I could have had a social life (I have like no connection to anyone outside of school), played soccer, gone to Red Wings (Detroit NHL team) games, gone to Flip Outs (gymnastics), cleaned... the list goes on and on and on.  It is a really sad day when I actually WANT TO CLEAN!  I was so stressed, I literally can not relax anymore.  I tried and it ended in me falling off the couch multiple times, playing Flappy Bird, and ultimately, going to my home away from home, WATTPAD!  Why do we have to do a project we honestly don't care about, present it like we learned something and actually liked it, and then have to prove what we say.  To me, this sounds like a court case the way we have to 'present scientific evidence' just to prove we are right.  Then, when we get awarded prizes, it is pretty much just a popularity contest. I have seen some pretty lame projects get awarded first prize.

It is pretty bad when a project on acid erosion and how it affects your health loses to a project on frizzy hair.  The girl who won with the frizzy hair project is the 'popular girl' and she even got the lead role in the spring musical when she can't sing to save her life.  Is that favoritism or what?  I don't know about you, but that is pretty unfair.  This year, my dad was pressuring me into winning because I am smarter than the girl who always wins with the stupidest projects, but I don't know if I can because I am not popular.  Don't get me wrong, I don't cause trouble, but science fair is pretty much just a popularity contest and a waste of time.  I seriously don't think Americans or anyone else will get more stupid if we stop having a science fair.  I mean, there are some things we NEED to continue with, like writing essays and math competitions, but we learn enough in science class.  I personally think a competition dedicated to science is a waste of time.
