I've regretted so many things during my 18 years of existence. But I was willing to take just one more risk.

I momentarily stopped in my tracks when I felt an icy wave spreading throughout each indivdual vein. With the chilliness seeping through every part of my body, the beating of my heart became more erratic; almost to the point where it could plop right out of my ribcage.

Despite it not being a cold evening, I knew that something was wrong. I warily took short steps, keeping alert of my peripheral surroundings. Passing through the dim lighting of town, I maintained my cautiousness; that was, until I tripped over an unseen object and fell face forward on the concrete sidewalk. I groaned in pain and frustration.

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

I mentally scolded myself, and continued on, even though I felt a dripple of warm blood trickle down to the base of my neck. I hissed as the pain slowly radiated up my face. I was sure that my cheeks were flushed in the color of a pink peppercorn.

Suddenly, I heard the clatter of metal in the distance, making every muscle tense in an instant. I had the police on speed dial awhile ago, and I was now clutching onto my phone for life. Debating whether or not to follow the noise or head home, I decided that my curiosity was far greater.

As the sound grew louder with each step I took, I paused for a minute. I found myself at the side of an alley that had a flickering light. Even though my ears were ringing with each passing second, I could make out the slight whimper from a girl. I crouched below a rusty garbage can, hiding in the darkness and took a peek.

What I saw next made me question my reality and my imagination.
