Late Night Texts [Daveed x Reader]

You sat alone in your dorm on the night before graduation. All your friends were out partying and having fun--or at least it looked that way on their Snapchat stories. Everyone had begged you to come but you declined every time you were asked. How could people forget about their everyday lives after one drink and a good song? You knew you definitely didn't work that way especially with the issues you were having right now.

You reached for your phone for the millionth time and scanned your notifications. He hadn't texted you once.

You flipped between the same channels on your TV in hope of finding something to watch but there was nothing on. Out of the corner of your eye, you see your phone light up and you grabbed it as fast as you could. Did he text you?

Amber: we're comin up to your room! you can't hide in there forever

You rolled your eyes and tossed your phone to the side again. You don't even know why you were waiting for him.

About half an hour later, Amber shows up with a bottle of champagne. Usually her energy is enough to put you in a good mood but today you can't seem to smile for anyone or anything.

"You look so sad!" Amber cried, pouring two flutes of champagne. "We're graduating tomorrow! You should be happy."

"Graduation isn't gonna be any fun anyway. I wish I didn't even have to show."

"(Y/N), stop being like this."

"I'm serious, Amber. What's the point of going?" You took your glass and sat back on the couch.

"The point of going is graduating college. This doesn't happen to a lot of people, you know," Amber said as she sat next to you.

Your phone lit up again and even though you didn't want to check it, you did anyway. It was just an Instagram post notification.

"Are you still glued to that phone?" Amber laughed. "I hate to break it to you but if he was gonna text he probably would've done it a long time ago. I hope he wouldn't apologize at the last minute."

"Thanks for your encouragement," you scoffed.

"I'm sorry, but I have to keep things realistic. Don't get your hopes up because I'm tired of seeing you so sad all the time. Give me the phone."

"Amber," you groaned.

"Give it!"

You handed your phone over just as another notification came up. Amber noticed but put it face down on the table behind her.

"We are going to forget about Daveed for a second and talk like normal people," Amber said with a bright smile.

"This could be important, though," you argued. "It might be him."

"Why do you even care?" she asked. "I thought you were mad at him."

"I am but I wanted to see what he said about my text."

"I'm gonna hate myself for this." Amber gave you your phone back and your heart almost stopped when you saw Daveed's text.

MY LOSER EX: why do you care about me showing up so bad if you hate me?

You seethed with anger and typed a response at lightning speed.

You: you kinda promised me that you'd show up ??

MY LOSER EX: i don't think that promise means anything after everything we've been through so forget it

"What'd he say?" Amber inquired. You knew she was just as invested in this as you were.

"He's not showing up."

"Why?"

"Our argument...but he already bought a plane ticket and I know he's not throwing away money."

"It's called a refund, (Y/N)."

"But he knows how much this means to me and..."

You couldn't help but break down in tears at the thought of having no one to cheer for you at your college graduation. Your parents weren't exactly the most supportive people in the world and your family wasn't very impressed with you becoming a theatre major. Daveed had been the only person who supported you besides the friends you'd made and now that he wasn't coming you were officially on your own.

"Please don't cry," Amber whispered as she pulled you in for a hug. "I'm proud of you okay? Even if no one else believes in you, I do."

Your phone illuminated with another notification and you almost didn't pick your phone up this time.

MY LOSER EX: but if anything, im really proud of you (Y/N) and you deserve this. you're one of the most hardworking people i know. have fun tomorrow. moments like this only happen once
