Author's Note: Sooo this is the first story I've ever written on this place, so I hope y'all enjoy!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a stormy night. The clouds over head were a dark bluish gray as they prepared to let water rain down from above. The air was mildly damp and cooling and filled with the scents of grass and the other scents of nature. The trees were already starting to change from a nice jade green to a dashing red, orange, and yellow attire.
The area were mostly plains, nothing but grass for a few miles, trees here, and there and a few roads. On one of these particular roads was a car. It was an animal control truck. In the front, a middle aged man with brown hair and a cigarette in his mouth drove the truck along the road. In the back sat cages. In these crates all sat dogs of different breeds and sizes.
Some of these dogs were barking and throwing themselves against the walls of the crate, demanding for them to be let free. Some of these dogs accepted whatever fate that they had coming to them and stayed put quietly. One whined timidly, but the whines were quickly overpowered by the fierce barks of the others. The man ignored this and kept on driving like nothing was happening.
Some of the dogs have experienced this before, and most haven't. The fear of the unknown fueled their anger and made them thrash the crate walls violently.
However, one of them who had not been there before didn't rush at the cage bars in fury. The dog inside of that cage was laying down, the fluffy and somewhat shiny black and white fur indicated her breed: a border collie. She answered respectfully to the name Melon, which was a bit of an odd name for a dog. Melon didn't mind it in the least bit though.
Her jade green eyes looked about. Telling by the way the dogs thrashed, there was no way out. If there was, the cages would've opened already.
The dogs' fierce barking scared Melon on more than one occasion easily until she finally got used to them. Eventually, the dogs' throats were hurting from the loud barking for so long. They reduced their threatening barks to low growls as a result.
She closed her eyes and fell asleep peacefully, unaware of her fate.
