Author's Note: Before we get into this, I have never worked a day in my life at a pound nor animal shelter so please forgive me if this isn't 100% accurate~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Melon awoke when the truck stopped. She rose her head, curious to see what was happening. The middle aged man who had previously been driving was now unloading cages with a few other men. Most of the dogs got agitated.
"These mutts just don't know when to quit it do they?" commented one of them.
When Melon's cage was picked up, the strong smell of iron hit her nose. She stayed obediently still despite her slight wariness. Melon glanced around as her and the other dogs' cages were moved to a fairly large building. Little did Melon know that this place held the worst for her.
Not long after she was moved inside, she was placed inside of another cage. This time she was in a larger room with various animals. Cats and dogs mostly. There were lizards here and there and a ferret somewhere. Melon couldn't exactly see it, but she knew it was there.
The walls of the room were a light pale while the floor was checkered black and light gray. Cages were in isles among the room, making it look like a maze from Melon's perspective. There were two doors in that room. One of the doors was the one she came through. The other door gave Melon an eerie feeling that she would find out soon enough.
A man came into the room. Melon observed him, just a bit curious. He opened the cage door that belonged to a tom cat. The cat hissed at him, but the man quickly caught the cat by the scruff.
Melon shrank back a bit into her cage when she heard the cat screeching and twirling around in the air, trying to turn around and claw him, but to no avail.
The man then walked a bit tensely over to that door that gave Melon an eerie feeling, the cat's scruff still firmly in his hand. He opened the door, went inside, and closed it. Melon listened through all of the noises the others were making around her and tried to focus on the sound of the cat hissing. But it was impossible. After a bit of time, the man walked out casually and left the room entirely.
Over the course of three weeks, strange things were happening in Melon's eyes. The animals who went in that room were the tomcat went didn't come back out. With time, she realized that they were dead. From then on, Melon thought of that room as the Death Room.
She also found that other humans would come in and take animals out of that room. She questioned herself, Did they end up like those who went into the Death Room?
