"Morning, mom" I greet my mother who sat at the dining table with the morning newspaper in her left hand while the other one's holding her coffee.

She tore her gaze away drom the newspaper to meet my eyes. When her eyes met mine she smiled.

"Morning, sweetie" She takes a sip of her coffee and goes back to reading her newspaper "Ready for today?" She asked without looking away from her newspaper.

I poured some milk in a glass and took a banana before taking a seat in front of her.

"Yeah" I answered before drinking my milk.

She put the newspaper down when I answered her.

"Hey, this is your first day at a new high school, why so gloomy?" She folds her arms while I just shrug my shoulders and continue to finish my breakfast.

She sighs before getting up from her seat and leaving while shaking her head.

"Tell me when you're ready so I can take you to school" She said before leaving the kitchen.

My mother and I moved to Philadelphia a week after my accident four years ago.

I don't speak to anyone about what happened because I thought it was a bad dream, but when my mother asked me why someone in the neighborhood found me unconscious in the street covered in blood, I just said some car driving too fast when I was trying to cross the street, so she thought that I was a hit and run victim.
