CANDY FLOSS

''What is it?'' I asked since it was obvious now; he didn't call me to apologize. His tone wasn't pleading at all, I knew Cam too well to figure that out. But it was too late to hang up now.
''There's Matt's birthday party today, and I want you to go with me.'' I mentally slapped myself for assuming the wrong thing.
''I thought you wanted to say sorry for accusing me! You just called me for a party of a guy I don't even know? Really Cam? Is that my importance in your life?'' The words came off my lips and for once I didn't hesitate to say what I felt. I just hoped I wasn't yelling too loud, I didn't want Miles to have any wrong ideas about me.
''I didn't know you were mad at me.'' I heard him say in a doubtful voice,
''I am mad. What did you expect? I didn't know you're so inconsiderate.''
There was silence on the other side and instead of hanging up the phone I waited for him to say something. Anything,
''I'm sorry'' He said finally after two minutes.
''What?'' I blurt out in a state of disbelief. Cam was really apologizing? I wasn't exactly complaining but it was hard to believe.
''I'm sorry'' he repeated,
''Are you being sincere Cam or are you doing this to just convince me to forget everything?''
''I did say sorry didn't I? I'm sincere with you babe. We can't let these small things come between us right? We need to solve these matters before they can get out of hand.'' Again I was surprised. Usually I wouldn't expect this level of intelligence from Cameron. He never almost said sorry to me, he never talked about sorting things out. What got into him today?
I knew I couldn't argue him now when he was saying all that stuff. Now that could actually be over reacting.
''Okay, it's fine,'' I replied in a low voice. Cam began telling me details of the party and what should I wear, at what time I should be ready and everything. I listened silently, nodding every now and then even though I didn't want to be at the party.
I wasn't saying I was against spending time with him but I wanted to spend time where we could talk to each other and enjoy without our ear drums being crushed by loud music or getting squished between careless hormonal teenagers.
No, I wasn't asking for that.
''But I don't even know this guy and can't we go somewhere else. Like away from all the noise and everything.''
''But Peyton babe, I want party not peace. We can't just miss such awesome thing and stroll in central park.'' Stroll in park was better than party, I thought but didn't press on it. I knew when to stop arguing; it was when Cam used his whiny voice and sounded like a spoilt brat begging her father to buy her the most expensive dollhouse in the toy shop.
''If I get bored, I'll blame you and leave off.''
''You can't do that babe, you just have to stay with me.'' This was just another thing I hated about Cam, he never gave me options and he spoke things in a way that he made them sound right - like facts. And I could never bring myself to answer him.
Someday, I thought, Someday I will answer him and I will be the one stating facts.
''Are you free today?'' I asked Miles after talking to Cam,
He didn't looked up from the laptop and typed way with an impossible speed, I wanted to ask him how he did that but decided it would make me look stupid, ''I am actually working on a project with a snotty, bitchy cheerleader who shoves pom poms on my face when I talk about Nitric Acid.''
''Ha ha, very funny.'' I said as he chuckled.
''Back to the point, are you free after this?''
''I'm not, and if you want to know about Matt's party, then I'm not coming.''
''How did you know about that?'' I asked, sitting in front of him, he stopped typing and pushed the laptop towards me.
''He's been going on about that throughout Gym, its suppose to be this very huge events for the social goons. And I'm not one of them.''
''What are you doing anyways? Homework?''
''I may look like a nerd-''
''-cute nerd.'' I blurted out and didn't attempt to hide what I said.
''-but - wait- you think I'm cute?''
''I just said okay, don't flatter yourself too much.'' Even though I said that I knew I was blushing. Gosh! What was wrong with me?
''I am going at the local hospital, me and mother do that every Friday, we go in the children's ward and play with them, read to them, kill some time.'' It sounded like it was a duty or something he was supposed to do but I noticed how his eyes lit up just talking about it. He sounded excited to be there and judging form the expression on his face, I could tell he really enjoyed doing this.
''That's interesting'' I managed to say, I couldn't bring myself to say anything else. But Miles wasn't making it sound like a fact. It sounded like truth to me.
